Greetings NOVA Runners,

Practice will be at 6:30 P.M. at Wakefield High School.

This weekend brought in perfect fall weather and exceptional conditions for the Veterans Day 10k. This fast flat course was like a magnet for the numerous elite runners that showed up for the run. As I ran toward Haines Point I couldn't help but notice the lack of wind.  Anyone who has raced this course will know that this is not a fast course when it is windy-- it is usually a head wind in both directions. It is hard to believe that two weeks ago it was hovering around 36 degrees and a wintery mix was falling on the area. Some of the observers out on the course were Coach Jerry and Dan Wallace. There were many NOVA members out on the course and in the race as well. Everyone agreed that it was a great day and beautiful conditions for a Fall race.

Usually the cold weather does not bring many opportunities to compete. If you are interested in a low-key winter race, I'm holding a 5k race at Bluemont Park for the school I work for (Hoffman-Boston Elementary School).  The race is to raise money for Girls on the Run and our Physical Education program. To sign up for the race you can download our registration form (it has all the race details on the form).  Click here for the registration form.

We have reached the time of year where we need to start thinking about
next year's NOVA leadership roles. We will need someone to run for
president as well as other positions on NOVA's board--Mark and Samantha will not be able to do it next year. Please let Mark (mad-241@hotmail.com), Samantha (sam@tecole.com) and Amanda (mandy13082@aol.com) know if you are interested in running for a club position.

Anyone interested in hosting a Cookie Run please e-mail Samantha and Mark.

We are still holding Thursday night tempo runs at 5:30 P.M.  If you are
interested in running with us or leading a run (if you lead a run you
can choose the time to have others meet you), please e-mail Samantha
(sam@tecole.com) and Dave Wertz (wertzdf@hotmail.com).

See you out there,

Mark Drosky (mad-241@hotmail.com) &

Tuesday Track: 6:30 P.M.

Coach Jerry's Workout

We had another great weekend of racing.  Jason Myers ran a huge PR for 8k, despite running what he described as his "worst race of the year" due to poor tactics.  That Jason could run as fast as he did despite uneven pacing and lack of focus in the middle of the race is a testament to his fitness, and he's got some big races yet to come this season to apply the lessons he learned on Saturday.  We also had some excellent performances at the Veterans Day 10k led by the great Samantha Kirby who is finally healthy and training well after a frustrating few weeks that included her not being able to run Marine Corps due to illness, and Dave Wertz, who continues to amaze with his development.  Congratulations also go to Bob "Steve" Koeppen who is showing great promise after only a handful of workouts with the team.

For those of you who missed the action this weekend, it's not too late to get in on the racing frenzy.  Bob is trying to form a team for the Jingle Bell 8k on December 11th.  I strongly encourage all of you to run, and it's always fun to do so as part of a team effort.  If you're interested, let me know, and I'll pass the word to Bob, who will be the NOVA captain for this race.

The workout tomorrow will be 2 x 1200, 2 x 800, 4 x 400, with a 400 jog after the 12s and the 8s, and a 200 jog after the 4s.  As always, if you have any questions, give me a shout.  I'll see you out there tomorrow.
