Greetings NOVA Runners,
Practice will be at 6:30 P.M. at Wakefield High School.
Many of our members are elite athletes for the Georgetown Running Company, which Coach Jerry also coaches. A few weeks ago, Dave Wertz was featured on their website. If you didn't know Dave before, you'll learn a lot more about him and how he became a runner in this feature article: http://georgetownrunningcompany.blogspot.com/2011/09/meet-grc-dave-wertz.html
We have reached the time of year where we need to start thinking about next year's NOVA leadership roles. We will need someone to run for president as well as other positions on NOVA's board--Mark and Samantha will not be able to do it next year. This has been a great year and I (Samantha--can only speak for myself) enjoyed setting things in motion and doing my part to contribute to the club after being a passive member for many years. I have no regrets being co-president and I will be available to help the next president of NOVA, as the previous presidents have helped Mark and I. Please let Mark (mad-241@hotmail.com), Samantha (sam@tecole.com) and Amanda (mandy13082@aol.com) know if you are interested in running for a club position.
Anyone interested in hosting a Cookie Run please e-mail Samantha and Mark.
We are still holding Thursday night tempo runs at 5:30 P.M. If you are interested in running with us or leading a run (if you lead a run you can choose the time to have others meet you), please e-mail Samantha (sam@tecole.com) and Dave Wertz (wertzdf@hotmail.com).
See you out there,
Mark Drosky (mad-241@hotmail.com) &
Samantha Cole (sam@tecole.com) NOVA Co-Presidents |
| Tuesday Track: 6:30 P.M. | |

| Coach Jerry's Workout |
Gang, we had a great workout last week under the lights at Wakefield, and I want to see a full house this week. We're in the midst of the season and now is the time to sharpen up for those big fall races I know you're all running. Speaking of big races, as you undoubtedly know, the Marine Corps Marathon is on Sunday, and we're going to have a very strong NOVA presence out there. We're looking for big PRs from several of our athletes, including Jerry Doyle, and the incomparable Martha Merz is returning to town to give it a go, so please show your support by going out and cheering our runners on to greatness. I also want to acknowledge one of our stalwarts who is not running, co-president Mark Drosky. Mark has battled a persistent injury this year, and a couple of weeks ago he made the very difficult decision to not run. Mark is not a man to give up easily, as his over 20-year streak of running every day demonstrates. But rather than wallow in self-pity over his misfortune, Mark graciously agreed to transfer his number to one of my elite athletes who is using MCM as a training run in her quest to qualify for the Olympic Trials, and Mark hereby turned a negative for himself into a positive for someone else. If our runners who compete on Sunday can channel Mark's toughness and perseverance during their race, they'll run PRs for sure! For the workout tomorrow, anyone who is running MCM should speak to me, as you will not want to run the normal workout, but I do encourage you to come to the track for a light workout, and a pep talk. For those who are not running MCM, the workout will be 2 x 1200, 2 x 800, 4 x 400, all with a 400 jog. As always, if you have any questions, give me a holler. See you out there tomorrow.
Coach Jerry
