Greetings NOVA Runners,

Practice will be at 6:30 P.M. at T.C. Williams High School.

Volunteer Update: Woodrow Wilson Bridge Half Marathon, SUN, 2 OCT http://www.wilsonbridgehalf.com/  Race day is getting closer and we have seven (7) volunteers for the water point.  We need your HELP.  We need between eight (8) to thirteen (13) more volunteers to man the water point for a 20 person station.  If you are not racing please consider supporting this event as a volunteer.  The race benefits six charity partners: Autism Speaks, Alice Ferguson Foundation, Child & Family Network Centers of Alexandria, Washington Area Women's Foundation and Back on My Feet - DC and RunningBrooke Fund.  Information about the start time and location will be provided when received from the race coordinator.  Thank you for your consideration and help.  Lynn Connors, lynconn450@aol.com.

Anyone interested in hosting a Cookie Run please e-mail Samantha and Mark.

We are still holding Thursday night tempo runs at 5:30 P.M.  If you are
interested in running with us or leading a run (if you lead a run you
can choose the time to have others meet you), please e-mail Samantha
(sam@tecole.com) and Dave Wertz (wertzdf@hotmail.com).

The next opportunity to "Grub for Good!" is this Wednesday, September 14 at 6:30PM to run.  This monthly event supports Rock Recovery, an Arlington nonprofit that provides a low-cost, transitional recovery program for those struggling with disordered eating and body image issues. After the workout, head over to Front Page Restaurant in Ballston for $3 off pasta specials, 1/2 price burgers, $2.50 drink specials, trivia, games, prizes, and a *great* opportunity to socialize...all for a $5 wristband that directly supports Rock Recovery's program. Please plan to "Grub for Good" after the run to support this program.  For more info: http://rockrecoveryed.org/programs/communities/events/grub-for-good/

Tuesday Track: 6:30 P.M.

Coach Jerry's Workout

Gang, two important administrative matters.  1) If anyone has or knows of anyone who has a number for Marine Corps but can't run, please let me know right away, as one of my elite athletes would like to enter, and time is running short for the number exchange program.  2) The Wilson Bridge Half Marathon is going to serve as the national championships for vision impaired runners, and the race director has asked me if we can supply a volunteer to act as a guide for one of the entrants, which means running side by side with the visually impaired runner connected by a rope that you each hold. I need a male runner who can comfortably run 11 minute pace for the half.  Being a guide would be a very rewarding experience, so men, please step up and be counted.

The weather tomorrow should be good, so I'm expecting a full turnout.  And those of you who skipped practice last week because of a few rain drops (and you know who you are) have a lot to make up for!  The workout will be 3 x 1200, 4 x 400, all with a 400 jog.  As always, if you have any questions, give me a holler.  I'll see you out there tomorrow.

Coach Jerry

What: Wilson Bridge Half Marathon
Location: TBD - race course runs through Alexandria, VA to National Harbor, MD
Date: Sunday, October 2, 2011
Race Start Time: 0730

Background: Last year the Coordinator for the Wilson Bridge Half Marathon asked NOVA running club to man one of the water points for the race. We know many of you would rather run the race but can you please consider SUPPORTING the race instead.

We need 15-20 personnel to man the water point. Thank you to those who have already volunteered to date.

The Wilson Bridge Volunteer Coordinator has already begun to reach out requesting t-shirt sizes for our volunteers. She has not provided the water point location or time we need to be operational. As this information becomes available I'll provide it. For planning purposes plan to rendez-vous NLT 0600 for a race start time of 0730.
