Issue: #2011-28July 18, 2011

Greetings NOVA Runners,

It's going to be hot again Tuesday night. Rather than canceling practice this week, we will have practice at 7 P.M. at TC Williams High School. As long as the weather cooperates we will resume practice at 6:30 P.M. next week.

Our next Cookie Run / Social Run will be this Friday, July 22nd. We will meet and start at Sara Cooch's house: 9716 Walthorne Court, Burke, VA. Most of us will do only one loop (4.5 miles once around the lake--plus the distance from her house to the path around the lake). After the run we will gather at Potomac River Running Store (5715 Burke Centre Pkwy, Burke, VA 22015) for Gatorade. Please come out and bring your favorite snack or dish to the run. Please let Mark (mad-241@hotmail.com) or Samantha (sam@tecole.com) know via e-mail if you plan on attending.

We will be having a NOVA 5K Run for Jerry on August 25th at 6:30 P.M. You can now register online: http://www.active.com/framed/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1973585. If you are interested in volunteering please contact Mark (mad-241@hotmail.com) and Lyn Connors (lynconn450@aol.com).

We are going to need at least 20 volunteers for the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Half Marathon on October 2nd. Our club gets money for these events which we use to pay our coach, supplies for our cookie runs and occasional Gatorade at the track. If you are interested in volunteering contact Lyn Connors (lynconn450@aol.com).

Recently a Connecticut paper, GrotonPatch, wrote an article claiming this outstanding athlete as their own--we had her first.  Here is the article: http://groton.patch.com/articles/merzs-return-to-area-brightens-local-road-racing#photo-6957882.

See you out there,

Mark Drosky (mad-241@hotmail.com) &

 Samantha Cole (sam@tecole.com)
NOVA Co-Presidents

Tuesday Track: 7:00 P.M.

This Tuesday, Track will be at 7:00 P.M. at TC Williams High School this week, located at 3330 King Street, Alexandria,VA.  Be sure to arrive early to warm-up and stretch properly before the workout.

Coach Jerry's Workout
Gang, it's going to be another hot one tomorrow.  Everyone who made it out last week agreed that the later start made a difference, so we're going to go with 7 pm again.  Another benefit of the later start was that the track was less crowded, so what's not to like?  Even with the later start, be sure to fully hydrate throughout the day and bring water with you.  The workout tomorrow will be 5 x 800 with a 400 jog.  If the conditions warrant, I will adjust the workout, meaning make it easier.  Remember, 5 x 800 is only a goal, and if anyone wants or need to do less, by all means feel free.

Also, I'm looking for numbers for the Army 10 Mile.  Please, if you have one that you can't use, or know of anyone in that situation, let me know right away.

As always, if you have any questions, give me a holler.  I'll see you out there tomorrow.

Coach Jerry
