| Coach Jerry's Workout |
Gang, we're getting to that point in the summer where we're going to have company on the track in the form of the youth group, and football players trying to get in shape, so it's very important that we all know and implement the rules of track etiquette. I know a lot of you have heard this many times before, but it's worth repeating that the number one rule is that you must stay INSIDE during your intervals, ie as close to the rail as possible, single file, so that faster runners can pass you on the outside. If you hear faster runners coming up behind you, DO NOT move outside. Rather, stay close to the rail on the inside and let them move around you on the outside. Rule number two is that you do your recovery jogs in lanes 4 and 5, but you must be careful when you move outside after you are done with an interval. a faster runner on your outside may be continuing beyond the finish line, and if she passes you on the outside while you move to the outside, we're going to have a problem, so please insure that you are clear before you move outside after your interval. If everyone follows these simple rules, we can manage on a crowded track without any difficulties. The workout tomorrow is 2 x 1200, 2 x 800, 2 x 400, all with a 400 recovery. It will be hot out there, so be sure to fully hydrate through out the day, and bring water with you to the track. As always, if you have any questions, give me a holler. See you out there tomorrow.
Coach Jerry
