Issue: #2011-23June 6, 2011

Greetings NOVA Runners,

Track practice at TC Williams High School Tuesday June 7th will start at 7 P.M.

We all run for different reasons, let's not forget about the great side-effects that we all get from running. This will definitely make you think twice before you consider giving it up.

Check out the link below to rediscover some items that we may take for granted. Click here to read: 10 Benefits Of Running And How To Do It

We are planning on doing a cookie run June 17th at 6:30 P.M. Starting at the Iwo Jima Memorial and heading into DC. From DC we will do an out and back trail run that should be around 4-5 miles total. We plan on making a stop, on the way back, in Georgetown for drinks before heading to our cars.

If you are still interested in participating in the 2011 Marine Corps Marathon, you can do so by running with a charity. The Red Cross still has numbers if you are interested in running for a cause. Click here for the Red Cross Charity Website.

See you out there,

Tuesday Track: 7:00 P.M

This Tuesday, Track will be at 7:00 P.M at TC Williams High School this week, located at 3330 King Street, Alexandria,VA.  Be sure to arrive early to warm-up and stretch properly before the workout.

Coach Jerry's Workout

We had an excellent performance this weekend from Jason Myers, who was second overall at the Race for the Cure 5k in 16:08.  Jason is determined to break the magical 16 minute barrier (and he may actually have done it Saturday, as the course may have been about 70 meters long), and the way he's going, it's going to happen soon, and quite possibly this week when he takes another shot at it.  Jason has come back from a serious injury and has not only returned to his previous form, he's in the best shape of his life, which proves that an injury is not the end of the line.

For those of you who want to get in on the racing fun, there's still time.  There are a couple of good races this weekend (you can contact me for recommendations) and don't forget about the Fathers Day 8k on June 19.

The weather tomorrow is going to be decent for this time of year, so we'll have the pleasure of doing some longer intervals.  The workout will be 6 x 800 with a 400 jog.  As always, if you have any questions, give me a holler.  See you out there tomorrow.
