Issue: #2011-17April 25, 2011

Greetings NOVA Runners,

We have track practice tomorrow at TC Williams. Everyone should come out considering it may be the only evening we don't have a chance of rain.

Please make sure you pay your dues; we are still behind on getting all our members paid for the year. Thanks to those who have renewed already--we value your membership.

We are working on a new listserv through Yahoo groups. We should have this up and running soon. We will be using it for running-related topics only.

Mark Drosky's Boston Marathon Experience

Thanks for your support and cheers that I received at all the "Tuesday track workouts" during my preparation for last weeks "Boston Marathon". I had not run Boston since 2000, and this year's race was truly spectacular. The half-a-million spectators made all 27,000 runners feel like "Rock Stars". I definitely won't let 11 years pass before I trek over "Heartbreak Hill" again. At the "starting village" in Hopkinton, an ole timer picked me out of the crowd and told me how much I resembled "Bill Rogers", the Boston Marathon Champion of 1975, 78, 79 & 80. As I toed the starting line I had a flashback to 1983 (my first Boston). I then realized that nothing has really changed. I still had aspirations of running fast. While crashing down on the hills with the wind at my back, I cheerfully created a new Boston memory which I'll cherish until I run it again.

See you out there,

Coach Jerry's Workout

I know we're going to have a big turnout tomorrow at TC Williams, as this will be our last workout on the track for a couple of weeks. It's going to be warm out there, so for those of you who do come out, summer rules are in effect. That means be sure to be fully hydrated by drinking water throughout the day, and eat a light meal for lunch. None of us are acclimated to the heat yet, so we need to be extra careful tomorrow.

The workout will be 2 x 1200, 2 x 800, 2 x 400, all with a 400 jog. It's important to stay relaxed on the first 2 repeats. As always, if you have any questions give me a holler. See you out there tomorrow.
