Greetings from your new NOVA Presidents,
Samantha Cole, AKA "Kirby": I grew up in Westchester, N.Y. I joined NOVA RC in 1998, one year after I moved to Northern Virginia, after meeting a NOVA member at a race at Haines Point. When I originally joined NOVA RC I ran in group three for several years and slowly moved up to group one. I love socializing as well as running and thus one of my goals for the year is going to be adding more social events throughout the year (Mark and I have already discussed putting a party together). I have been a member of the club for the past 13 years and look forward to giving back to the club. Mark Drosky: I'm looking forward to serving on the NOVA Board. We inherit a club that has a long and storied tradition in the DC running community. Most of the Board is returning, which gives us a strong nucleus of knowledge to lean upon. The new officers will carry on the old traditions already established and provide new avenues of pursuit as well.
It will be hard to do as an exceptional job as Dan Wallace has as our NOVA RC President. We would like to thank Dan for his hard work over the last 2 years as our club president.
Here's to warmer weather! Mark (mad-241@hotmail.com) and Samantha (sam@tecole.com) NOVA Co-Presidents

| Coach Jerry's Workout | |
Gang, the weather is turning for the better and it's going to be a beautiful night to run tomorrow, so I expect to see a full house. Spring racing season is almost upon us, and indeed a few of your hearty brethren got a jump on the season by racing this past weekend. There are several races this coming weekend for President's Day, so I encourage you all to get out there and give it a go. There's no better time than now to shake off that winter rust and start running hard again. If the warm temperatures and imminent race season aren't enough of an inducement to get you out to the track tomorrow, the workout will be everyone's favorite, 10 x 400 with a 200 jog. Don't miss out on the fun! As always, if you have any questions, give me a shout. See you out there tomorrow.
Coach Jerry

| Save The Date: New Balance Private Event | |
When: 10:00 AM on March 12, 2011
Hosted by Metro Run & Walk Springfield (click for directions to the store: 7261 Commerce Street, Springfield, VA 22150), NOVA members-only are invited to join the Kingstowne Striders and PosiAdventure for a private New Balance event on Sunday, March 12 at 10AM. You'll get a sneak preview and can try on the brand new New Balance Minimus and NB890 (lightweight trainer).
NB Minimus is a barefoot-inspired line of shoes created specifically for runners seeking a truly minimalist experience. It's a cross-category collection, including road running, trail running, and wellness shoes ...
With NB Minimus, the idea is to balance this desire to deliver a "closer to barefoot" experience with the realities of the terrain on which people are running today, and the fact that most of us have been raised in shoes. With that in mind, for NB Minimus NB developed a new, more anatomically-correct last, along with midsole heights specifically-engineered to deliver more natural movement, and better form. People will also notice that the uppers are a lot thinner, which helps reduce weight. The increased ground feel was accomplished by employing thin, flexible midsoles, and eliminating the inserts ...
To NB, a meaningful 'closer to barefoot' experience is something very specific: a shoe with a neutral foot position, meaning that it has a minimal drop from heel to forefoot. It's certainly lightweight - under 8.5 ounces. Also, and this is really important, it has to deliver a great minimal running experience - enhanced ground feel and a barefoot-compatible interior. That, of course, means reducing the number of seams, and making the shoe highly-breathable.
Is this shoe for everyone? Absolutely not. But if you're intrigued and want to experience it for yourself, come on by. For more information about the NB Minimus, see: http://www.newbalance.com/nb-minimus/
For those who like a little more shoe while maintaining the more natural feel of "barefoot" or minimalist running, the new NB 890 might be just the ticket.
