Greetings from your NOVA President,
This weekend is the first of two great racing weekends for the DC area. For some of us, running the Army Ten Miler is the big race we've been focusing on all summer. Next week of course is the Marine Corps Marathon. NOVA will have members running both races so we would love to have your support out on the course. Click this link for info on the ATM course map and expo information. http://www.armytenmiler.com/.
After the race join us around 11 AM for a post race beer or an early lunch at Sine's. http://www.sineirishpub.com/cms_arlington/
In all the excitement about the ATM, don't forget NOVA's Fall W&OD Trail Clean up scheduled for 9 AM on Saturday, October 23. We meet in the Bluemont Park Parking lot on the corner of Manchester St. and Wilson Blvd. Check out the new website: http://www.arlingtonva.us/departments/parksrecreation/scripts/parks/BluemontPark.aspx
We are running out of daylight quickly so we will once again start the track workout 10 minutes early. Be ready to go at 6:20 PM tomorrow.
I am waiting for Arlington County Parks and Recreation to send their November schedule for the track. We usually switch over to Wakefield High School for the late fall and winter because they have stadium lights. I don't think anyone is comfortable walking through the poorly lit parking area at TC or running on the track in the dark. Stand-by for details in future emails.

| Tuesday Track Session | T.C. Williams H.S., Tuesday, 6:20 PM
Due to the pending darkness as we head into fall, we are starting the workouts 10 minutes earlier to ensure we have enough natural light before sunset.
Come out and join us at T.C. Williams High School for our Tuesday track workout. Try to get there about 15 minutes early so you can warm up and stretch before we start. T.C. Williams is located at 3330 King Street, Alexandria, VA.

| Coach Jerry's Workout |
Gang, we had another weekend of outstanding racing. Congratulations to Adam Wytko and Lawyer Dave Kent for strong performances in the long races, and to Matt Logan and Amanda Williams for fast times in the shorter races. We're going to be very well represented in the Army 10 Miler this weekend, so I hope that those of you who are not competing will come out and cheer on your teammates.
The workout this week will be 3 x mile, easy, medium, hard, which is an excellent tuneup for those of you who are running Army, and a fun workout for those of you who are not. Let's have a big turnout on Tuesday to make sure everyone is ready to run well this weekend. As always, if you have any questions, give me a holler. See you out there tomorrow.
Coach Jerry

Sun 11/7: We are asking for your support for the National Race Against the Odds. In April 2008, Jonathan and Neely Agins' daughter Alexis was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. Over two years later, Alexis continues to fight her battle against a little known, but dreadful cancer. The National Race Against the Odds Team Alexis 5K will be held at Bluemont Park November 7, 9:00AM start time. Registration, donation and volunteer opportunities are available at www.raceagainsttheodds.com. Much more work is yet to be done. Volunteers are needed to help with packet pick-up, and race day logistics. Go to http://csn.convio.net/site/TR/Events/General?pg=informational&fr_id=1040&type=fr_informational&sid=1012 and let Thomas know where you can assist. Be a part of the National Race Against the Odds, and help Alexis and other children like her fight to beat the odds.

The Capital Running Company hosts these two races and the NOVA Running club provides volunteers as marshalls primarily, as well as inprocessing and bag detail as required. Races need volunteers and NOVA Running club does a great job in stepping up with as many as 20 to 25 volunteers annually for each race. These events are fund-raisers for the club. The Capital Running Company pays us for our volunteer effort. As the time grows near please consider supporting these events whether as a volunteer or a runner!!! Please contact Lynn Connors if you would like to volunteer for either of these 10K events: lynconn450@aol.com

Sat 10/23: Stop Modern Slavery Walk, Washington, D.C. Raise awareness and funds for local organizations combating human trafficking. Few Americans realize that approximately 17,000 foreigners and over 100,000 American kids are trafficked for labor and sex every year in the U.S. The streets of our Nation's capital are not immune. Outreach workers identify more than 50 potential victims of trafficking every month on the streets of D.C. alone. Team up with Shared Hope International and other organizations as we host a 5K Walk on the National Mall. Every dollar given to this event will benefit victims of trafficking, both domestically and internationally. Go to www.walk.stopmodernslavery.org to register in advance. Contact Elizabeth for more info: Elizabeth@sharedhope.org
