Road Runners Club of America
Issue: # 37September 13, 2010
Greetings from your NOVA President,

The NOVA Board met last week and for planning purposes I am including the key dates for future events:

1.  The W&OD Trail Clean Up is scheduled for Oct 23, 9 AM at Bluemont Park, Arlington.

2.  NOVA's next race will be a Trail Race on the Accotink Trail in Springfield.  Tentative dates are Nov 6, Nov 20 or Dec 4, depending on the availability of key members and the trail. This will be a Cookie run, so bakers get ready.

3.  Course Marshaling events are Veteran's Day 10K on Nov 14, and Jingle Bell 10K on Dec 12.

4. Depending on interest, there will be a post-Army Ten Miler party on October 24 at either Siné's or Crystal City Sports Pub immediately after the race.

5. Our annual Christmas Tree run has been scheduled for Dec 9th at Mike and Andresa's house in Washington, D.C.

As we get closer to each date we will provide updated information.

Tuesday Track Session
T.C. Williams H.S., Tuesday, 6:30 PM
Come out and join us at T.C. Williams High School for our Tuesday track workout. Try to get there about 15 minutes early so you can warm up and stretch before we start.  T.C. Williams is located at 3330 King Street, Alexandria, VA.
Coach Jerry's Workout
Gang, the fall season is now here, and this is the time to train hard so you can race hard.  Speaking of races, there are tons of good ones coming up, including the Wilson Bridge Half Marathon on Sunday, and I urge all of you to enter some races soon.

It looks like we're going to have a very nice night tomorrow, and the cooler temperatures will give us the opportunity to do those longer intervals you've all been hoping for.  The workout tomorrow will be 2 x mile, 2 x 800, all with a 400 jog.  The idea is to cut these down, so your second mile should be about 10 seconds faster than your first, and your second 800 should be about 5 seconds faster than your first.    As always, if you have any questions, give me a shout.  See you out there.

NOVA Volunteer Events
Save the dates!

Sun 12/12: Jingle All the Way 10K http://www.runwashington.com/jingle-all-the-way-10k.htm

The Capital Running Company hosts these two races and the NOVA Running club provides volunteers as marshalls primarily, as well as inprocessing and bag detail as required.  Races need volunteers and NOVA Running club does a great job in stepping up with as many as 20 to 25 volunteers annually for each race.  These events are fund-raisers for the club.  The Capital Running Company pays us for our volunteer effort.  As the time grows near please consider supporting these events whether as a volunteer or a runner!!!

Please contact Lynn Connors if you would like to volunteer for either of these events: lynconn450@aol.com

We also want to start a second Thursday night group that runs a bit slower pace at Bluemont or some other location.  So far we've had one offer for Bluemont Park and one for Belle Haven.  Let me know what works for you.
