Greetings from your NOVA President,
Save the Date! On Thursday, August 19, at 6:30 PM, NOVA will host a Summer 5K to benefit Community Connections, http://www.communityconnectionsdc.org/, the largest not-for-profit mental health agency serving men, women and children in the nation's capital. The race will be held at Bluemont Park but we are meeting at the shelter area off of 4th and Manchester, rather than the pavilion off of Wilson and Manchester. If you are interested in running or volunteering let me or Samantha ( Sam@tecole.com) know. More details to follow. Yesterday I did my long run at Burke Lake. There were quite a few runners out there but the best part was that nearly the entire 4.5+ mile loop was shaded and the surface was a soft forgiving trail, leaving my legs relatively fresh after a long run. Another benefit of running around Burke Lake is that it gave us a chance to stop and drink from our water bottles after each loop so we didn't have to carry our fluids with us. There is no charge for entry before 9 AM, so if you are looking for an ideal place to do your marathon training runs, I highly recommend Burke Lake. Dan Wallace President dan_wallace65@hotmail.com |
| Tuesday Track Session | T.C. Williams H.S., Tuesday, 6:30 PM
Come out and join us at T.C. Williams High School for our Tuesday track workout. Try to get there about 15 minutes early so you can warm up and stretch before we start. T.C. Williams is located at 3330 King Street, Alexandria, VA. |
| Coach Jerry's Workout |
Gang, it's going to be hot out there tomorrow night, so be sure to fully hydrate before you come out. We had some excellent performance this weekend from several of our NOVA Racing Team stalwarts, and there are more great performances in the offing this coming weekend, so we're not going to let a little warm weather stop us from doing our preparation. The workout will be 6 x 800 with a 400 recovery. I expect another busy night at the track, so remember to be courteous to other users, even if they are not courteous to you. And I know I don't need to remind everyone that you must run your intervals on the inside, as close to the rail as possible, so the faster runners can pass you on the outside. If you have any questions, give me a shout. See you out there tomorrow. Coach Jerry |
