Issue: # 28July 12, 2010
Greetings from your NOVA President,
This upcoming weekend is one of the area's great running traditions, the 25th running of the Rockville Rotary Twilight Runfest or simply the Rockville 8K.  NOVA is looking to fill up our roster and form a team.  We'll take anyone running, regardless of speed, so let me or the Coach know you are interested and we'll make it happen.  For more information about the race use this link: http://www.mcrrc.org/races/TwilightRunfest/

Have you visited the new website?  Check it out.  The address is the same,  http://novarun.com/.  Thanks again to Mary Johfls for her hard work putting this together!  If you have pictures that we can add to the website let us know since we haven't taken any recently.

Coach Jerry's Workout
Gang, the good news is that it's not going to be 100 degrees tomorrow.  The bad news is it's still darn hot out there, so it's imperative that you take the proper precautions before coming to practice, which means fully hydrating throughout the day and eating a light meal at lunch.  The workout will be 4 x 800, 4 x 400, all with a 400 jog.  As always, if you have any questions, give me a holler.  See you out there tomorrow.

Wardian sets Indoor Marathon Record!  By Jay Wind

Michael Wardian, 36, put his name in the world record books on July 1, running the fastest marathon ever on a 200-meter indoor track.

Cheered on by his family and friends, Wardian ran 2:27:21 for 211 laps around Thomas Jefferson Community Center's track, breaking the previous world record set in Boston in 1928 by Joie Ray, the 1924 Olympic Marathon bronze medalist.

The race was named Grant-Pierce Indoor Marathon, in honor of Wardian's two young sons, who watched his every lap.

Following his win, Wardian ran the last few laps with each of the other three finishers, Andy Mason, 38, of Hagerstown, second in 2:50:47; Karsten Brown, 36, of Front Royal; third in 2:59:09; and Michael Tietz, 23, fourth in 3:25:23.

Wardian has held two other world marathon records -- the fastest-ever 26.2 miles on a treadmill and the fastest-ever pushing a baby stroller.

A week earlier, pushing a double-baby stroller -- with a flat tire -- Wardian finished second at Run 4 Children 4 Mile at Carderock in 27:14.
