Road Runners Club of America
Issue: # 22June 1, 2010
Greetings from your NOVA President,
Yay!  Summer's here!  By now most of the spring racing season is complete so we have a summer of 5Ks and long training runs to look forward too.  If you were out training this weekend you probably received a preview of what's coming so hopefully everyone took the right precautions, including starting early, hydrating often and stopping when the heat was too much.

Yesterday was Memorial Day.  The D.C. area is a spectacular place to observe Memorial Day events such as Rolling Thunder, the laying of the Wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Memorial Day Parade downtown.   We must never forget how the sacrifices made by our soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines throughout our country's history and today provide Americans the opportunity to enjoy freedoms and opportunities not possible in any other place.

Coach Jerry's Workout
Gang, it's going to be a special night Tuesday, as we will be joined by John Tuttle, who represented the United States in the Olympic Marathon in 1984.  John is still racing at an extraordinarily high level, and he will run a workout with our A group men.  On a personal note, it's particularly exciting for me to have John join us, because John was in his prime when I first became a track fan, and watching John run showed me what a truly motivated athlete can acheive.  Don't miss the chance to say you ran at the same time and the same place as a true living legend!

The workout will be 4 x 800, 4 x 400, all with a 400 jog.  As always, if you have any questions, give me a shout.  See you out there.
