Greetings from your NOVA President,
This was a busy weekend for NOVA members. First of all thanks to Lynn Connors and all who showed up to lend a hand for the first W&OD clean up of the year! We had 13 people (14 if you include Shane's infant son Jackson) show up so I was very pleased with NOVA's participation. After the clean-up, NOVA Member Fred Carson led about 6 more NOVA members for a bike ride along the now immaculate W&OD Trail.
On Sunday, the 31st Capitol Hill 10K took place. See race results below. In addition to strong individual performances, as well as heavy NOVA participation, a coed NOVA team won the team competition!
It's been years since I've run this race and I forgot how well organized and fun it was. It is a unique race in that it is one of the few run on Capitol Hill. The race provides funding for three public schools on Capitol Hill but due to rising costs associated with support provided by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), the future of the race is in jeopardy.
Lastly, I would like to introduce Amanda Williams (our newsletter lady) as NOVA's new Vice-President. I asked Amanda if she would fill in at the VP position for the rest of the year and the NOVA Board enthusiastically supported the decision. Congratulations Amanda, and welcome to the NOVA Board! | Bluemont Trail Clean-Up | | A Huge Success!
I want to Thank the Club for their efforts in support of the Spring Trail-Clean-Up at Bluemont Park. Everybody showed up on time AND with their working gloves! Before we hit the trail we had a small social and drank coffee and ate bagels. It was nice to introduce the new volunteers to the "habitual" volunteers - we need everybody to be successful. We had a surprise visit by our newest club member, 4 week old Jackson Elkins. He was well-behaved and enjoyed the outing.
Yours in Volunteering, Lynn Connors
I'd like to recognize the following volunteers for their selflessness and call to support on a beautiful Saturday morning. Thank you!

| Coach Jerry's Workout |
The racing season is in full swing and it's time to start getting serious about your training. We've had good turnouts the last couple of weeks at TC Williams and I expect that trend to continue. Sadly I will not be joining you this week as family obligations preclude my attendance, but my sources will tell me who's been naughty and who's been nice, so don't plan to slack off in my absence. The workout will be 2 x 1200, 2 x 800, 2 x 400, all with a 400 jog. If you have any questions give me a shout. Enjoy.
Coach Jerry

| Thursday Night Tempo Runs | Bluemont Park
Next Thursday, May 27th, we will hold our first tempo run of the year. Last year the regular Thursday night crew averaged about a 7:30-8:00 minute pace for the first three miles and 6:30 to 6:00 for the second three miles. We start at 6:00PM sharp! If you are looking for a Thursday night group that runs a bit slower let me know and I'll try to find someone to organize that meeting. |

| Feature Article - Is It Faster Barefoot? |
Continuing the conversation... Elite runners don't run barefoot; there's a reason for that.
