Greetings!

For 25 years, Tribute to Women, the Women's Center for Advancement's (WCA) signature event, has celebrated the achievements of Omaha's distinguished women leaders. The contributions of the honorees make our community extraordinary. Five women will be honored on Tuesday, June 5 at the annual luncheon.

The intent and purpose of this award is to recognize women in our community who have set an example of human achievement and who serve as active role models of citizenship, accomplishment, service and/or overcoming challenging life circumstances.

If you know a woman who should be nominated, please download the nomination form, complete the form, and submit to the WCA by noon on Friday, February 17, 2012. A separate nomination form must be completed for each nominee.

Success Story

Lauren's Story
Prior to being admitted into the Bridges to Opportunity program, I had no job or real career aspiration. I care for my three children and mother. I separated from my husband for personal reasons several years ago. I was severely depressed, insecure and isolated from the world. I simply did not want to get up or give life a chance. I couldn't find the emotional support needed to keep working on getting my life in order to care for my family. It is important to me that my children stay in school and become productive citizens when they are adults. I want to show them hard work pays off.

Lauren said she believes that the Bridges to Opportunity program has given her a reason to live. "I actually look forward to waking up now." The tools and resources that the program provides allow her to focus on her full-time studies at Metro Community College's Culinary Arts program. Lauren said that her weekly coaching sessions give her the encouragement and focus she needs to achieve her academic and personal goals. Without the support of the directors of the Bridges program, she would not be on the path to successfully completing her degree.  Lauren said she believes that the Bridges program has "changed her life" and she is excited about her future.
