Natalia
 Greetings!

This year marks an exciting time for the YWCA as we experience a Renaissance that will be shared throughout the Greater Omaha area. New, as well as, refreshed programs have been introduced to meet the fundamental and transitional needs of a diverse and growing population crtical to the development of our workforce and our Omaha community.

Our clients come to us in times of crisis, in times of life transition, in times of growth for job training and career counseling and they come just to connect with others. They come for a variety of reasons and they leave with new skills, renewed spirit and stronger lives. The YWCA has always prepared women and their families for new skills, leadership and a successful place in the community. Success comes through regained hope, self-sufficiency, empowerment and a deep and sustained commitment.

Most Sincerely,

Natalia Peart, Ph.D.

Annual Giving Campaign Underway
The YWCA Omaha has launched its annual giving drive with the theme of Transformations. Proceeds support new and existing programs offered by the organization.

The YWCA is rooted in a 117 history of empowering women in our community through a broad spectrum of programs and services to help them build lives of strength, growth and stability.

  • Our Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault (DVSA) program offers a full range of services for victims of sexual assault including a 24-hour hotline, advocacy, counseling and legal services.
  • Our revitalized Youth Education and Prevention program focuses on school and agency-based collaborations promoting violence prevention and health lifestyles.
  • Our new Connections program provides avenues for women from all walks of life to connect with other women through mentoring, enrichment classes and special events.
  • The expanded Women in Transition program provides tools and resources for women to shape their future following a separation, divorce, death of a loved one, or as they enter or return to the workforce.
  • New this year, is Bridges to Opportunity to assist individuals in their efforts to build self-sufficiency.
  • Our Men's Program reaches out to men and boys to prevent and educate about violence, in order to enhance their lives and the lives of their families.

Basic Skills logo Basic Skills and Self-Sufficiency  Program Accepting Applications

Ten area service providers are teaming together to provide comprehensive services for women and men based on a framework of a succession of education, training and career related services.

In addition, there is an array of support services available based on severity of need, as each client progresses from economic and social vulnerability to self-sufficiency. Self-sufficiency is defined as the individual's ability to provide for their own and their family's needs. Applications are currently being accepted.

One key goal for each of the program participants will be to move directly into sustainable employment or to attain acceptance into an Omaha Chamber Workforce Training Collaborative program to become employment eligible. All service providers will have the goal of providing better coordinated, efficient services to participants than what is traditionally delivered through a piece-meal, uncoordinated service delivery model. Contact A.R.
