Employers Seeking Software, Quality, Security Skills

 

Top skills in demand in the technology sectors of late include software development and quality assurance. Dice showed an all-time high in the request for these skills with 14,616 job postings including the software development requirement; in second place is QA or quality assurance with 9,355 corresponding job postings as of October 1, 2012.
 

Indeed.com trends show the rise in demand for these two categories, as well as java and mobile criteria in the job search terms. Other skills criteria going strong include virtualization, big data, cloud and saas. Other growing sectors include information security, data security, application security, governance-risk-compliance.
 

Top metros for tech hiring currently according to Dice are:  New York, DC Metro area, Silicon Valley, Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Dallas, Seattle and Philadelphia.

CLEANTECH TRENDS 
The 100 Most Promising Private Cleantech Companies
   
The Cleantech Group LLC has recently published its "2012 Global Cleantech 100" report - an exciting list of the most promising privately-held Cleantech companies replete with thoughtful and well-researched information on the various component sectors. Redfish Technology is proud of the recruiting relationships we have with a large number of these winning cleantech firms.
The industry, still in its relative infancy, has been undergoing a shakeout. According to Richard Youngman, the Global Cleantech 100 project lead, we are in the midst of a transition from the second to the third wave of cleantech innovation and investment and brighter times lie ahead. The group has termed this third wave "Cleantech Goes Inside" to indicate that Cleantech is being adopted as the standard.

1. Script Your Thoughts.
Whether you were fired under unfair circumstances or for something you did that you regret, write down your thoughts on how you would explain the instance. Read your script aloud or use a tape recorder and practice until you like what you hear. Better yet, answer the question for someone else in a mock interview. Have him observe your interview technique -- your body language, eye contact and comfort-level while discussing your experience. Feedback from someone else will help you improve your presentation.

Surprise!

 

The September jobs report showed a surprise decline in the unemployment rate, to 7.8 percent. September payroll jobs increased a modest 114,000, and revisions of the last two months pushed August to 142,000 (from the 96,000 previously estimated) and July to 181,000 (from 141,000) for a net increase of 86,000.


Sectors showing the most gains include: health care (up 44,000), transportation & warehousing (up 17,000), and financial activities (up 13,000). Public sector jobs grew by 10,000 in September, and surprisingly by 45,000 in August.
 

Staffing jobs rose 5.4% higher in Q2 2012 than in Q2 of previous year. The ASA staffing index also shows a rise in in temporary and contract employment of 26.6% since the beginning of 2012.
 

Consumer confidence rose significantly in September, in surveys from both the University of Michigan and the Conference Board. This represents the strongest rise in confidence since December. Analysts speculate that confidence may be inspired by the simultaneous gains in housing and stock prices, which haven't shown such returns simultaneously since 2006.
