This leading global electronics company reached out to Redfish Technology to find a Solar Project Finance Analyst. The Solar Division is a growth area of the company, and the Director of Strategy relies on this position to provide strategic financial analytical support. The ideal project manager candidate would have experience in utility-scale solar and performance of due diligence, while demonstrating excellent communication skills and customer satisfaction orientation. It was imperative to find a match for the company's technical needs and its strong culture of dedication to improving people's quality of life and a commitment to innovation, quality, value, and design through advanced technology.

Redfish recruited Shelly Shen for her solar and energy industry tenure and for her well-honed skills working with customers and bankers on financing solar energy projects. Shelly is obtaining her CFA, and is very familiar with state and federal incentive programs, possesses proven quantitative analytical and research skills, and expertise in financial modeling and pricing. Shelly has an impressive track record in her positions within a Global Fortune 500's Green Energy Project Finance Department and previously at a leading global energy company as a Financial Analyst and Commercial Associate. She has an M.B.A. from Texas A&M and a B.S. in Finance from the well-reputed Shanghai University of Finance and Economics.

"Working with Ryan Thomson at Redfish Technology has been a great pleasure. He is very active, diligent, and easy to work with. He communicated with me constantly to work together toward the position and update the information as it changed. In addition, Ryan went out of his way in helping and advocating for both my needs and company's needs. He also follows up with candidates regarding the position afterwards. I enjoyed working with Ryan and consider him a close colleague from my experience." - Shelly Shen

JOB BOARDS AND SOCIAL MEDIA MAY REPLACE RECRUITERS ...OR WILL THEY?

By Greg Schreiner, Clean Tech Recruitment Manager

Greg Schreiner
Greg Schreiner
Many people believe that job boards are as useful as recruiters, and may even replace them. Companies post jobs on Monster and niche boards. Job seekers are using social media to target their next job. Anyone can post a job pitch on YouTube, the world's second largest search engine. Networking is viral, right? So why work with a recruiter?

Ironically, using the internet and working with a recruiter are quite opposite methods of locating the talent you need. And yet both are useful of course.

FINDING AND HIRING THE RIGHT IT STAFF
By Alicia Stein
From the UBM Midsize Enterprise Strategies February 2012 Newsletter, Strategy Section article.

Many middle-market CIOs lack the resources-staff and budget-to fulfill all of their organization's IT initiatives. Even though the last recession displaced millions of workers, it still remains difficult for CIOs to find individuals with the right mix of talent and skill.

Things are so bad that nearly one in four CIOs who attended our recent Midsize Enterprise Summit West conference said their staff lacks the necessary IT skills. So, how do middle- market IT leaders overcome this resource challenge? Experts said they must develop creative leadership tactics while pursuing IT consultants and outsourcing firms to fill current gaps.

Many middle-market IT leaders are having a tough time finding staff that contain the "whole package" to cover IT needs that run from printers to support issues to networks, data delivery and storage, cloud, ERP and e-mail.  Professional recruiters are leaping at the opportunity to help CIOs fill these positions.

"Some traits that we are seeing most IT departments lacking now are mostly on the software side-networking, media, wireless-so we are doing a lot of work in finding IT professionals to fit those roles," said Rob Reeves, the CEO and president of high-tech recruiting firm Redfish Technology.

HOW JIM GOT A JOB,
or The Long and Winding Road to Employment
How Jim Got a Job
This is a thought provoking info-graphic on today's hiring process.

It describes a fictional person's job search starting online and spending a bunch of time filling out forms, only to get an automated email (Ug, yes another one of those - we use them too!) and a long wait. Success at last, someone from the employer he applied to calls about a different job. Next is a lengthy wait, then interview, then another waiting period, then another interview with an on-the-spot offer, followed by a wait and an official offer with a different title, manager and salary than was verbally offered!

While the road to new or re-employment can be long and twisty, does this process ring true for you? What crazy hiring processes have you been involved in?

STAFFING & EMPLOYMENT NEWS
How Strong is the Recovery?

+ Online jobs advertised grew in February, January and December, according to the Conference Board Help Wanted OnLine® (HWOL). The Supply/Demand rate stands at 2.9 unemployed for every vacancy.

"In a positive sign the Supply/Demand rate dipped below the 3.0 level for the first time since November 2008," said June Shelp, Vice President at The Conference Board. "This reflects both significant gains in labor demand as well as drops in unemployment levels since the end of the recession. Labor demand is up 227,000 over the past three months, continuing to narrow the gap between the unemployed and available jobs. With the monthly level of job demand around 4.4 million, labor demand is back in line with the pre-recession series high in 2007."

+ The U.S. Economy added 227,000 jobs in February. This is the third consecutive month of gains over 200,000. December and January numbers were also revised upwards.

- The employment rate has declined to 63.9% as of February this year; as a comparison that rate peaked in 2000 at 67.3%. This is due to discouraged workers leaving the workforce, job seekers who haven't found employment, and the retirement of the aging workforce.

CLEAN TECH TRENDS
Energy Efficiency Leading Renewables Sector, in Real Investment and Jobs Potential

In the United States, energy efficiency/conservation measures to improve local buildings can create jobs, lower utility costs, and improve the environment. This potential has led to a lot of venture capital investment and mergers & acquisitions by managed service companies in various energy service companies (ESCOs). ESCOs provide energy sourcing, energy efficiency assessments, weatherization, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) tune-ups, cool roofs, rain barrels, and turf replacement.

U.S. buildings consume an estimated 70% of our electricity, so making them more efficiency has a big impact. Energy efficiency benefits include reduction of carbon dioxide pollution. Energy efficiency and conservation help utilities' control power generation expenses as well as comply with new environmental regulations. And jobs will be created, jobs that offer people a career path in the utility sector, a chance to pursue rewarding work, and the ability to support a family and revive local economies. A new report entitled "Clean Power, Good Jobs. Realizing the Promise of Energy Efficiency in Los Angeles" outlines how we could get there in LA.
