FEATURED PLACEMENT
Nitin Shah,
MES Engineer -
Solar PV Manufacturing

  Nitin Shah
The Director of Information Technology Services of one of Redfish Technology's top clients targeted hiring an MES Engineer as a priority. The company is a leader in the monocrystaline silicon space for high efficiency solar cells. This company is well-funded, privately held, and growing aggressively. With over a billion dollars in backorders, it was important to fill this position with the right talent expediently. The MES Engineer position is responsible for operation of the plant floor Manufacturing Execution Systems. Candidates would need a bachelor's degree in computer and a strong background in working with MES & Statistical Process Control (SPC) applications. Responsibilities include managing the MES system integrators and future upgrades, enhancements and change control.

Redfish found a self-starter with rich experience in developing MES systems from scratch (coding, designing, architecting, implementation, managing contractors). Nitin's objective is to bring operations processes and automation to cutting edge. He offers solid experience including ERP integration, production planning, warehouse and supply chain process automation, machine controls, quality management, warehouse, inventory, purchasing, manufacturing maintenance management and planning (order fulfillment), as well as  process control re-design and planning. Nitin has a degree in Electrical Engineering as well as coursework in finance and project management and certification in lean manufacturing and Six Sigma.

"It has been a great experience to work with recruiter Greg Schreiner at Redfish Technology. He is prompt, reliable and personable. Greg did a great job in understanding my expertise and career objectives, and matching me up with this fantastic opportunity at a dynamic company. He made the whole process very smooth, from initial interviewing to negotiating the offer. I am loving this job and would highly recommend Greg and his greentech team at Redfish." - Nitin Shah

REDFISH MONTHLY NEWSLETTER

June 2011

Greetings!

Despite news of low job creation last month, we continue to experience strong growth in the hiring of professionals for the technology and alternative energy sectors. Software and cleantech are receiving increased venture capital funding, and there are great ideas out there for making capital raising easier (crowd funding). Read on for stories on these subjects. Additionally we have a couple articles on background checks and the risks of learning too much about candidates via social media.

STAFFING & EMPLOYMENT NEWS
Lower Private Payroll Numbers than Expected, partially due to Re-entry of Discouraged Workers in April?
Employment Situation: Month Over Month

Employment Situation:

Month Over Month

The jobs market gained momentum over the last few months; in the prior three months the number of jobs added averaged 220,000. The May figures released today however came in lower than expected. While private-sector employment added 83,000 jobs, this was a disappointing reversal of previous months' growth. Expanding Industries include professional and business services (+44,000), health care (+17,400) and mining.

TECH TRENDS
Software Biggest Winner of Venture Capital

The software sector captured 50% of the VC investments in the first quarter according to the latest MoneyTree report, the quarterly study of venture capital investment activity in the US, followed by the biotech and green energy sectors.

Investments were up slightly in the first quarter, at $5.9 billion - the first time in four years since the dollar amount invested in Q1 were greater than Q4. That said the number of deals invested in was down to 736 nationwide - the lowest quarterly number since Q3 2009.

Software was the leading recipient of dollars with $1.1 billion invested in Q1 and the leader in number of deals funded at 187; these are both small decreases over last quarter.

Clean Tech Wins Too!

The Clean Technology sector (alternative energy, pollution and recycling, power supplies and conservation) garnered $1.0 billion (up 26% in dollars) in 69 deals (up 11 % in number of deals).  Five of the top ten deals were in Clean Technology, including one deal that topped $1 billion - the fourth time in history that Clean Technology investing exceeded one billion dollars.

A recent survey by the Silicon Valley Bank reports that the number one challenge for start-up companies is access to capital: Cleantech companies are the most concerned, followed by life science companies.

GREEN TECH TRENDS
Energy Pricing and Costs, and Policy for America's Future

The Hamilton Project's new study "A Strategy for America's Energy Future: Illuminating Energy's Full Costs" starts from the precept that energy consumption is critical to economic growth and our quality of life, but that we have some unintended and unaddressed negative consequences, and that the goal of our energy and climate policy must be to improve Americans' well-being. Our energy choices do not currently address the social costs such as shorter lives, higher health care expenses, a changing climate, and weakened national security. While these costs are not captured in the retail price, we certainly are paying for them, and dearly.

CLOSING CANDIDATES:
A HOW-TO IN A HOT JOB MARKET

As the job market heats up, candidates seeking employment no longer go months without a response, but rather, quite the opposite. The improving economy brings along a new set of hiring challenges. After investing in the hiring process and agreeing on the ideal candidate, you cannot afford to lose him. Remember, the saying "time kills all deals" applies to hiring as well as sales.
CROWD FUND INVESTING
Reversing the Decline in Capital Formation

Start Up ExemptionCrowd Funding is a solution for funding the Startups and Small Businesses that are such a critical part of our economy, providing the majority of new jobs and salaries. With the financial meltdown, the traditional means of business financing are no longer available to most businesses because banks are holding on to their cash, credit card interest rates are exorbitant and private capital is only available to a select few.
A solution is crowd funding!

WHAT EMPLOYERS NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BACKGROUND CHECKS

A background check is an important part of any hiring process, and any offer should be contingent on passing the check. The type of check a company runs depends however on the type of business and the job description. In all cases however a minimum of information should be independently confirmed. There are some important things you need to know.

EMPLOYERS BEWARE:
WHEN SOCIAL MEDIA SAYS TOO MUCH.

As explored in the above article, responsible hiring decisions should include a background check. Today social media presents a new route to information about candidates. The caveat is that what you learn about a person from social media may be protected by the Federal Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Laws. How should you handle this?
