FEATURED PLACEMENT
Deanna Deery,
Account Executive - SaaS/Internet Media
  Deanna Deery

A publicly-held, profitable Internet Media company asked Redfish Technology to locate top sales talent who were fresh thinkers with aggressive sales ability. The company offers a great corporate culture and growth opportunities. Additions to the sales team must be strong hunters with the proven ability to close business. Candidate must have a background in SaaS, knowledge of the e-communications space, and/or a background selling into online advertising or online marketing. The company also hoped for sales training experience, a solid rolodex, track record in target account penetration and in the management and growth of key customers.

Redfish recruited Deanna directly, identifying her proven track record in achieving and exceeding demanding sales quotas in technology & financial software markets at companies such as Marketo Inc., Salesforce.com and Advent Software Inc. Deanna, recognized as a top performer, closed the first six-figure and first multi-year deal at her last position. Deanna's relationship management skills and industry contacts lent themselves to this new role where she found a true sales environment with exceptional Sales Leadership. In addition to her sales experience, she has been responsible for relationship management ensuring customer retention and overall customer success. Finally, Deanna's professional development at Stanford University in Advanced Project Management, Barry Rhein & Associates Selling Through Curiosity, and Stuart Diamond's (Wharton School of Business) Negotiating for Competitive Advantage demonstrate her dedication to her profession.

"I felt very fortunate to have connected with Redfish Technology at the time I was looking for my next opportunity. My requirements were complex as I wanted to gain exposure to new technology, work with a proven, reputable market leader with great leadership and return to the east coast. Redfish exceeded my expectations as we partnered on multiple opportunities each of which had their own requirements in their next hire. Andy was exceptional in providing the insight I needed to wade through not only the information on the organizations; but the interview and overall hiring process. He aided in providing honest and constructive feedback and gained my respect in the negotiations process. Andy was also gracious in following up in the weeks and months following my move to ensure I was happy with my placement. Grateful and appreciative of the experience, I would welcome the opportunity to work with Redfish Technology again." - Deanna Deery

Jobs Chart May 2011 CEA

Last week's employment situation report released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics was stronger than anticipated with non-farm private payroll showing increased employment of 268,000 last month, surpassing March's strong showing of 231,000. This growth is the most robust in five years, and marks the seventh straight month of employment increases. Nonetheless, jobless rate climbed and government jobs fell by 24,000.

The Conference Board shows concern around the leading indicators for employment, this month's Employment Trend Index dropped. Monster, Dice and many search firms are reporting positive growth and continued signs of improvement of the labor market.

IT TRENDS - Cloud Computing
What's the Forecast?
Stormy Skies or Rainbows & Pots of Gold?

Cloud Forecast

Data breach is costly and perilous whether your data is in-house or up in the cloud. Paypal, Visa and Mastercard were all attacked by hacktivists reportedly. Then there was the Amazon interruption last month which was likened to the computing equivalent of an airplane crash, by Lew Moorman, chief strategy officer of Rackspace a specialist in data center services. Sony's PlayStation Network and Qriocity online services have been down since April 20th and will be down until at least May 31th. Ouch!

As the cloud becomes larger, what kind of rain storm might be possible? What pots of gold are at the end of the rainbow?

Does Concentrated Solar Power Have the Answer to Intermittency Concerns?
By John Whitney, AIA

For some time now, the intermittent nature of both solar and wind renewable energy generation systems has been a thorn in the side of the clean energy industry.  Coal, natural gas, and nuclear advocates have trumpeted the fact that generation capacity factors for their power plants range from 85% to 90% while solar and wind numbers are in the 20% to 35% range.  Over and over we get hammered with the question:  What happens when the sun goes down and the wind stops blowing?

Well, as renewable energy supporters have been correctly responding, the simple two-part reply is:  Wind turbines continue to generate electricity at night and peak electricity demand kicks in during the day when the sun is shining.  Furthermore, because renewables are a relatively small portion of their power generation fleets, utilities have been able to effectively incorporate their intermittent generation into the mix.  Even as renewable generation contributions continue to increase it can be argued that a smarter grid, with fine-grained response capability, will be able to effectively absorb and integrate intermittent power sources.

"Change is the only constant. Hanging on is the only sin." - Denise McCluggage

Change is something that we naturally resist and yet is a very important part of any organization.  Your business has been and always will be changing.  Any company in high tech over the last couple decades has experienced many cycles and shifts in the market - from the Dot Com to the Dot Bomb to the 2007 Recession.  You've probably seen the highest highs and the lowest lows. As your company has thrived or survived, there has ideally been a deepening of purpose. Your organization has doubtlessly made efforts to embrace and reflect this change, reviewing your mission statement should be one of your first priorities.

Corporate culture is incredibly important; it builds your brand and infuses your employees with the company goals.  As you look around the office today, it may be that there is lively music, the office may be aglow, some people may be dressed for afternoon workouts or maybe they are in business casual, the sun is shining in, hopefully you have an energy flowing and people are excited to be at work. Or perhaps there is less enthusiasm and purpose these days. Either way, it remains important to ask yourself "What do we stand for?" "Is it the same core that we started with?" This is obviously a question that requires input from multiple sources.

THE RIGHT TALENT CRITICAL FOR BUSINESS GROWTH STRATEGY IMPLEMENTATION, SAY LEADING CEOs.

The CEO Challenge 2011 cites Growth and Talent as the most critical challenges. After years of scaling back, driving business growth emerges as top concern for corporate leadership. Talent management and innovation are the most critical vehicles for business growth strategies today.

Talent is the second greatest concern. Talent management and innovation emerged as the most critical vehicles for implementing business growth strategies. Key strategies to address talent challenges include: improving leadership development/grow talent internally, enhancing the effectiveness of the senior team, providing employee training and development and improving leadership succession.

"Consensus among CEOs was clear: having the right talent will make a critical difference in executing against any of today's business challenges," says Rebecca Ray, Ph.D., Managing Director of Human Capital at The Conference Board.
