Hello Expressive Arts Friends! We extend a heartfelt thank-you to the artists participating in our recent Mandala Exhibit! It was a great  success! Jane Keil Yoder - your mandalas were wonderful, and we appreciated your participation in the receptions, as well. Gallery visitors learned a lot about mandalas, and about the expressive arts, as a result! To learn more about mandalas, and create and share your own, consider joining our Online Mandala Forum! Here is the finished version of the collaborative mandala that was created by gallery visitors during the Mandala Exhibit. Wow!
 A big thanks to Anita Flores and Roy Nelles for leading our recent Networking group in an exciting and transformative expressive arts "game night". What a gift! Great fun and filled with personal growth potential! This month, we will be welcoming our Expressive Arts Florida Institute students, for two courses, the Intermodal Expressive Arts Intensive (Level One) and Expressive Arts in the World (Level Two). We are delighted to have students coming from as far away as Colorado, Minnesota, and British Columbia, as well as all over Florida, and we are preparing our space to welcome them! In conjunction with the
Friday April 20 Towles Court Art Walk our Institute Students will be presenting collaborative art-making opportunities in our studio! Please stop by between 6 and 8:30 pm and participate in one or all of these projects.

Stephanie Heidemann blends her unique background in Healing & Arts, folk and international music into her unique modality of "Authentic Voicework". Heidemann studied classical technique with Brenda Boozer (NY Metropolitan Opera) & gained a B.A. in Expressive Arts Therapy (Indiana University). She received national attention with a cappella world music group, "VIDA" (IMG-Artists) and continues to spread her music through CD compilations (Sounds True, inc.) and film soundtracks. Stephanie recently presented Authentic Voicework at the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association conference in Peru, and resides in Florida.

The Painting Experience
Annie Rousseau  Monday April 23 9:30-5:30 $95 plus $25 materials A daylong exploration into the depths of the creative process through paint; a world of color, form and image guided by a facilitator who will help you follow the thread of your own intuition and inner knowing. It is a spontaneous adventure into free expression free of judgment, critique, analysis or comparison. Everyone is a beginner; people from all levels of experience are welcome, including those who have never picked up a paintbrush. Working deeply into the medium of paint on paper without rules, technique and outcome, allows you to uncover your blocks and unfold your inner wisdom and direction. It is like a moving meditation, restful, restorative and informative. There is nothing to bring - complete materials are supplied. Includes a film by MC Richards "The Fire Within" on the creative process. Annie Rousseau is a Facilitator with 20 years experience. She is trained in expressive arts, psychology, fine arts, counseling, coaching, mentoring and business. Her company - Circle Tree Studios -in Courtenay, B.C. offers classes, workshops, on-line study groups and mentoring/coaching programs using art to transform your life and your business. She also facilitates process painting workshops for The Painting Experience founded by Stewart Cubley. Annie has studied Hakomi Counseling through the Vancouver Hakomi Education Network, Expressive Arts with Expressive Arts Florida, and has a Fine Arts and Psychology and Coaching background. She has been facilitating interactive workshops for 20 years in social development, education and inner process work. Expressive Arts Florida Institute is a two-level training program for those interested in pursuing the Expressive Arts as a professional path, whether integrating it into an existing career, or beginning a career in the expressive arts field.
An INTERMODAL EXPRESSIVE ARTS TRAINING PROGRAM, Expressive Arts Florida Institute is grounded in a firm belief that an integrated arts approach is a powerful agent of change. Students will participate in visual art-making of various kinds, writing, poetry, music, movement, drama, and guided visualization. An emphasis will be on the power of following the natural creative flow from one arts modality to another.
The learning format is THREE WEEKEND INTENSIVE COURSES per calendar year, generally in January, April, and October in Sarasota, FL. Each weekend is 25 hours of class time. In addition, there is a one-day orientation program for new students.There are also elective credits, which students can often earn in their own community, online communication with an advisor, and a Practicum/Internship at the end of the second year. We offer flexibility for entry of new students; they may start the program with any of the Level 1 weekend intensives. Our goal is to create a FLEXIBLE LEARNING FORMAT for students traveling to Sarasota from out of the area.

EXPRESSIVE ARTS COMMUNITY NETWORKING Wednesday April 25 6:30-8:30 pm $10 (please call or email to reserve your spot) Anyone who is working or studying in the field of Expressive Arts is invited to participate in our monthly Networking group. It is a great way to connect with others, share your news and events, get support, and engage in a mini-process. We are currently looking for a guest facilitator for the April session. ONLINE MENTORING AND SUPPORT GROUP FOR EXPRESSIVE ARTS FACILITATORS Online! Are you venturing out as a facilitator and looking for support? Kathleen facilitates this small ONLINE group, personally designed for the needs of the participants. Drawing on her years of experience in the Expressive Arts as a facilitator, educator, therapist, artist, designer of programs and curricula, Kathleen guides participants on their personal and professional paths. Group members also offer valuable feedback and support to each other. Topics of discussion and sharing include facilitation skills, personal art practice, sharing and witnessing, developing a practice or business, local and international resources, marketing and articulating our work, realizing our unique visions, and more. Participants receive both professional and peer guidance and support. Appropriate for both practitioners and expressive arts therapists. If you would like to be part of a community, with the support, inspiration, and guidance this provides, please contact Kathleen@expressiveartsflorida.com to see if this group might meet your needs. MANDALA AS PERSONAL PRACTICE (Online) An online forum for exploring the mandala, sharing images, writings, and experiences. Kathleen facilitates by providing information, resources, teachings and images, and offers feedback and suggestions to participants. Discussion and sharing is encouraged between participants. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in exploring the Mandala as a personal art practice, learning more, sharing your art and insights, and staying connected with others, without geographical barriers. CUSTOM TRAININGS In Expressive Arts, Arts and Health, Art and Healing Are you looking for specialized training to meet your specific needs? We design customized training programs for individuals or groups interested in developing skill and expertise in these rapidly developing, and sometimes merging, fields. These programs are designed with your specific needs in mind and can include creative and business strategies along with training in whatever modalities or artistic mediums you are interested in. Please contact us with questions or to set up an appointment to discuss your needs. ARTS & HEALTH CONSULTATION SESSIONS Creative consultation for those who desire guidance in finding their way in the merging worlds of Arts and Health. These sessions are open to Artists, Therapists, Facilitators, Administrations, etc... - anyone interested in working or already working professionally in an Arts and Health setting. Sessions can be in person, telephone, email or Skype. One time or ongoing sessions are available. Call or email for available dates and fees. EXPRESSIVE ARTS BUSINESS CONSULTATION We offer consultation sessions to meet your needs. Please contact us to discuss. Student rates are available. EXPLORING YOUR IMAGES Individual sessions with Kathleen $50 per session; $30 if you are currently enrolled in Art as a Healing Practice 1 hour Have you created an image that you know has messages that you haven't yet made sense of? Would you like an opportunity to explore it with some gentle and skilled guidance? Kathleen will assist you in listening for the deeper wisdom of your images, through non-interpretive methods such as image dialogue. These sessions are designed primarily for those who are already practicing Art as a Healing Practice or other Expressive Arts work. In-person or Skype options. Email or call with questions or to schedule. ART AS A HEALING PRACTICE Individual Sessions $75 per session 60-90 min. You may schedule an individual session if you can't make the group sessions or retreat, if you live at a distance (via skype) or if you would prefer to work one - on -one. The IMAGINE ProjectBegun as part of our October 2011 class:
Expressive Arts Florida Institute 130: The Scope of Expressive Arts - Individual, Group, and Community, this collaborative arts-for-social-change project has taken off!Each EAFI student has taken the IMAGINE project to her own community, and worked with a group there. The participants choose a theme, and create their "imagine" visions on strips of unbleached muslin.
"Annee Janus from Pensacola, Florida "For my version of the Imagine Project I chose 8 members of a Discussion Group who meet bi-monthly to share food and to consider subjects of faith and religion.
Facilitating the project with this group was fun and an interesting learning experience. To introduce the Project and the concept of collaborative or community art, I showed some short you- tube videos of various community art examples. We ended on the
Playing-for-Change video, Imagine, which inspired our EAFI project. Then the group brainstormed ways to complete the sentence, "Imagine...." and, after several ideas were presented, chose "Imagine the world as one." After a brief meditation reflecting upon the idea of envisioning the world as one, the group went to the art table and began to paint their banners. Group members appeared very engaged in the art making process while working at the table. Each person presented their completed banner to the group".
 
Back at Expressive Arts Florida, our participants are mailing us the fabric strips, and we are knitting them together. It is very exciting to receive these packets in the mail, and to begin the joining process. At our "home" location, gallery visitors and friends are sitting down to create "imagine" pieces of their own, and leaving them for us to include in the overall project. At this point - the beginning - we can't really imagine where all of this is going to go! Stay tuned; we will post an update each month. back to top |

Its mission is to promote creativity and the arts as commonly used tools in the pursuit of wellness and healing at all stages of life by: building a network that fosters partnerships and collaborations, providing a platform for information exchange, promoting and encouraging educational opportunities for artists and healthcare practitioners and advocating for funding and research.
