Hello, Expressive Arts Friends!
top
First, we have some "thank-you's" to extend to those who support our work in so many ways.

We are so appreciative of our Expressive Arts Florida Institute students for coming from all areas of Florida, as well as Minnesota, Colorado, and B.C. to immerse themselves in Expressive Arts training and practice with us. We have celebrated the completion of our first year of Institute training, and we held our first Level Two class recently. Thank you, all, for joining us on this journey!

*A big thanks to Jared Massanari for another great workshop - "A Process of Transformation - from Self-Expression to Self-Understanding". We look forward to hosting Jared again in the future.

*And, we are so grateful to Stephanie Heidemann for being the guest facilitator at our recent networking event. She inspired and moved us as she gave us a brief, yet powerful introduction to Authentic Voicework.

Victoria had the honor of being the keynote speaker at the Junior League Luncheon. She inspired the audience with her presentation - "Empowering Children Through Art".

In the coming month, we offer you:

4th Annual Community Mandala Exhibit

Victoria's Junior League Keynote Address

On January 6, at the Hyatt Regency, Victoria was honored to be the Keynote Speaker
for the Junior League of Sarasota's Child Advocacy Luncheon. "Empowering Children through Art" was her topic. 127 participants were inspired and moved, as Victoria shared her work, with Expressive Arts Florida, in educating and facilitating the use of the creative process as a powerful tool for healing and transformation.  "Building Friendships" a Weller Arts Grant Project at Fruitville Elementary school, and "Visions of Hope" a Program of the Child Protection Center were both featured in this inspirational keynote.

Expressive Arts Florida Institute is a two-level training program for those interested in pursuing the Expressive Arts as a professional path, whether integrating it into an existing career, or beginning a career in the expressive arts field.

An INTERMODAL EXPRESSIVE ARTS TRAINING PROGRAM, Expressive Arts Florida Institute is grounded in a firm belief that an integrated arts approach is a powerful agent of change. Students will participate in visual art-making of various kinds, writing, poetry, music, movement, drama, and guided visualization. An emphasis will be on the power of following the natural creative flow from one arts modality to another.

The learning format is THREE WEEKEND INTENSIVE COURSES  per calendar year, generally in January, April, and October in Sarasota, FL. Each weekend is 25 hours of class time. In addition, there is a one-day orientation program for new students. There are also elective credits, which students can often earn in their own community, online communication with an advisor, and a Practicum/Internship at the end of the second year.  We offer flexibility for entry of new students; they may start the program with any of the Level 1 weekend intensives. Our goal is to create a FLEXIBLE LEARNING FORMAT for students traveling to Sarasota from other areas.

The IMAGINE Project
Begun as part of our October class:
Expressive Arts Florida Institute 130: The Scope of Expressive Arts - Individual, Group, and Community, this collaborative arts-for-social-change project is quickly taking form!

Each EAFI student has taken the IMAGINE project to her own community, and worked with a group there. The participants choose a theme, and create their "imagine" visions on strips of unbleached muslin.

Julia_imagine_JA
From Julia Alexander.......
"As a facilitator I was deeply moved by the enthusiasm and graciousness of the participants. Like-minded expressive artists, they easily transitioned out from the inner journey into the realm of connection and positive social change. Their visual art gave voice to imaginings of acceptance, openness, hope, refreshment, forgiveness, unity, oneness, benevolence, awareness and love. Wow, how exciting to explore the wondrous possibilities of all that we can be as humans and fellow earth travelers.

 SherriS_imagine_1

From Sherri Sutton.....
"For my IMAGINE project, I asked my Girl Scout Troop (ages 10-11) to imagine something that would make the world a better place.  They unanimously decided that the world would be a better place if people spent more time in nature, exploring the outdoors, breathing in fresh air and really taking in the beauty around them.  The girls feel that if people spent more time hiking and camping, they would appreciate their every day lives more, slow down enough to really see things and have time to connect with each other, gaze at the stars and even watch the movement of bugs.  Their images reflect their favorite parts of camping, we created the strips while camping and we allowed them to dry and hang in our campsite all weekend"

SherriS_imagine_6

Back at Expressive Arts Florida, our participants are mailing us the fabric strips, and we are knitting them together. It is very exciting to receive these packets in the mail, and to begin the joining process.  At our "home" location, gallery visitors and friends are sitting down to create "imagine" pieces of their own, and leaving them for us to include in the overall project. At this point - the beginning - we can't really imagine where all of this is going to go! Stay tuned; we will post an update each month.
