Hello, Expressive Arts Friends! We extend a heartfelt Thank You the outpouring of community support during 2011. We wish you each the very best for 2012! It was an honor to share with many of you in our recent "Setting Intentions for 2012" session. The Expressive Arts assists us as we make decisions, set goals, navigate challenges, and find support. Working with image and metaphor permits us to "get underneath" the familiar patterns of the logical mind, and helps us discover something new. This month, our focus will be on our two upcoming Expressive Arts Florida Institute Intensives. January marks the first anniversary of the Institute, and we are very proud of that! Several students are nearing completion of their Level One Certificate. Many are continuing on to Level Two, and several new students are joining us. There are still a few spaces in   Expressive Arts for Body/Mind/Spirit (January 12-15) which hasopen enrollment. It provides a unique opportunity to explore the inspirational and restorative power of the expressive arts.

Jared's last workshop was a sold-out success, so register early.
Please note: Because of our Institute Intensives this month, we will NOT be open for the Towles Court Artwalk.  We will be back in February for the opening of the Fourth Annual Mandala Exhibit, on February 17.   Our goal is to create an array of diverse opportunities that encourage each of you to make Expressive Arts a part of your life. Please let us know what YOU would like!   With appreciation, Kathleen, Elizabeth, Tamara, Victoria Creative Partners and Faculty Expressive Arts Florida Expressive Arts Florida Institute       |

A PROCESS OF TRANSFORMATION 11

From Self-Expression to Self-Understanding
with Jared Massanari, LPC, Ph.D
Monday, January 16, 2012
9 am - 4 pm
$85
Continuing the exploration of the process of image making begun in our October 2011 session, this workshop gives each participant a chance to experiment with different ways to relate to the image created. Free association with and amplification of the image are just two of the ways we will explore. Fundamental to each is the willingness to learn and the courage to stay open to the unexpected, both qualities essential in our journey of self-discovery and participation in the Expressive Arts.
Everyone is welcome to join in this experiment since we will spend the first part of the morning reviewing the content of our October workshop. Please bring your favorite art making materials and wear comfortable clothing. Plan to play and to learn more about yourself and others!

6 CEU's for LMHC, LCSW, LMFT available.  ($20 CEU fee)
EAFI elective credit can be earned. ($25 fee)

Jared is also offering individual sessions.........
"I will be available during January to work with individuals on their process of art expression. Although I do not see this as  therapy, this more intense time will enable an individual to learn more about his/her areas of resistance and explore ways to work with resistance to deepen creative expression. Sessions will be arranged to meet individual schedules and will cost $50.00 per hour, although I will consider individual finances and amount of time requested. If you would like to schedule a session, please contact me at 828-251-1948 or at  jareddm@charter.net

Expressive Arts Florida Institute is a two-level training program for those interested in pursuing the Expressive Arts as a professional path, whether integrating it into an existing career, or beginning a career in the expressive arts field.
An INTERMODAL EXPRESSIVE ARTS TRAINING PROGRAM, Expressive Arts Florida Institute is grounded in a firm belief that an integrated arts approach is a powerful agent of change. Students will participate in visual art-making of various kinds, writing, poetry, music, movement, drama, and guided visualization. An emphasis will be on the power of following the natural creative flow from one arts modality to another.
The learning format is THREE WEEKEND INTENSIVE COURSES   per calendar year, generally in January, April, and October in Sarasota, FL. Each weekend is 25 hours of class time. In addition, there is a one-day orientation program for new students. There are also elective credits, which students can often earn in their own community, online communication with an advisor, and a Practicum/Internship at the end of the second year.  We offer flexibility for entry of new students; they may start the program with any of the Level 1 weekend intensives. Our goal is to create a FLEXIBLE LEARNING FORMAT for students traveling to Sarasota from other areas.

The IMAGINE ProjectBegun as part of our October class: Expressive Arts Florida Institute 130: The Scope of Expressive Arts - Individual, Group, and Community, this collaborative arts-for-social-change project is quickly taking form!
Each EAFI student has taken the IMAGINE project to her own community, and worked with a group there. The participants choose a theme, and create their "imagine" visions on strips of unbleached muslin.

"Threads of intention, our circle becomes the loom
weaving prayers of peace." working with a group of women who meet weekly to explore authentic creativity.
Location: east coast of Florida Annie Rousseau, EAFI student from Courtenay, B.C., facilitated the Imagine Project at "Transitions", a group of 12 young adults with disabilities. The theme that they decided on together was "imagine an inclusive community". Here they are, with Annie in the center.
Back at Expressive Arts Florida, our participants are mailing us the fabric strips, and we are knitting them together. It is very exciting to receive these packets in the mail, and to begin the joining process.  At our "home" location, gallery visitors and friends are sitting down to create "imagine" pieces of their own, and leaving them for us to include in the overall project. At this point - the beginning - we can't really imagine where all of this is going to go! Stay tuned; we will post an update each month.
