            Hello, Expressive Arts Friends!
Well, we can tell that "season" is upon us, as we have so much to report on from the past month, and so many upcoming events to tell you about!
We had the privilege of teaching our 3rd Expressive Arts Florida Intensive with 11 students. What an amazing group! Several of these students have now completed 3 Intensives and are about to complete their Level One Certificate. We are very grateful to this "pilot group" who signed on for the journey, right at the beginning. We all learn from one another, and our intensives have been filled with deep and heartfelt learning experiences. We are now planning for Expressive Arts for Body, Mind, Spirit in January. This is a certificate course, and, this time, we are opening enrollment to others who are interested. Learn more here.
On October 17, we hosted Jared Massanari, who facilitated a sold-out workshop called A Process of Transformation: From Self-Consciousness to Self-Expression. Jared is one of Kathleen's mentors, and it was a delight to welcome his wonderful presence into our space. His next workshop is Monday January 16. Read more below, in the "Guest Presenters" section.
Judy Lyon brought us her gift of Mindfulness Meditation and Art-Making at Expressive Arts Community Networking. Judy gently and skillfully guided us through a 25-minute meditation, followed by 30 minutes of art-making. Many participants described it at profound, relaxing, challenging, enlightening, and very beautiful. Thank you, Judy! You bring so much to our community.

Our Third Annual Touch Drawing Exhibit is coming right up! The opening reception is Friday November 18, 5-10 pm. More than 15 artists are joining in; if you are considering it, there are still a couple of days to let us know, as we extended the deadline to Nov.7. This is always a really inspiring exhibit; it is quite exciting to see where each artist takes the process of Touch Drawing. There is a big Touch Drawing community here, and we are ever-grateful to Deborah Koff-Chapin, for birthing this art-form into the world!  We know that many will witness the exhibit and become curious about Touch Drawing, so we have scheduled two introductory workshops in early December. Read more below in "Upcoming"
Kathleen's current Art as a Healing Practice series has sold out, and we want to thank all of our participants. Over time, this process continues to deepen and expand. Kathleen will be offering Art as a Healing Practice in a one-day retreat format for the first time on Sunday Nov. 20. See below in "Upcoming". Kathleen also offers individual "Exploring your Image" sessions, in which she assists in discovering the deeper messages of the image, gentle yet powerful techniques such as image dialogue. Read more in "Ongoing Services".

Victoria is honored to be the keynote speaker at the Junior League of Sarasota Luncheon - Empowering Children Through Art - on January 6. Another opportunity to get the word out about the power of this work! Evite, details, and ticket info in the "Community" section.

AND, beginning Thursday Feb. 2 Victoria and Kathleen are going to begin a new 7-session course: "Introduction to Expressive Arts and Healing". We are excited about launching this opportunity, and we invite you to learn more here.    Our goal is to create an array of diverse opportunities that encourage each of you to make Expressive Arts a part of your life. Please let us know what YOU would like!   With appreciation, Kathleen, Elizabeth, Tamara, Victoria Creative Partners and Faculty Expressive Arts Florida Expressive Arts Florida Institute       |

A PROCESS OF TRANSFORMATION II:
From Self-Expression to Self-Understanding

with Jared Massanari, LPC, Ph.D

Monday, January 16, 2012
9 am - 4 pm
$85

Continuing the exploration of the process of image making begun in our October 2011 session, this workshop gives each participant a chance to experiment with different ways to relate to the image created. Free association with and amplification of the image are just two of the ways we will explore. Fundamental to each is the willingness to learn and the courage to stay open to the unexpected, both qualities essential in our journey of self-discovery and participation in the Expressive Arts.

Everyone is welcome to join in this experiment since we will spend the first part of the morning reviewing the content of our October workshop. Please bring your favorite art making materials and wear comfortable clothing. Plan to play and to learn more about yourself and others!

Open to all!

Jared's reflection on the recent October workshop:
"After I returned to my home in Asheville, NC from facilitating The Process of Transformation workshop on October 17, a number of colleagues and friends asked me how it went. I found myself repeating, "It was great." I went on to describe that I was most excited by the willingness of the 12 participants to engage in all of the activities I planned. I have done many workshops over the years and this one felt easy. Participants were eager to learn and experience different ways to create images. And the group clearly had much encouragement in past groups to play! This became obvious when I asked everyone if they wanted to dance after lunch. The resounding response was "YES." No one whined; no one muttered, "How silly."

Oct. workshop - image created by Melanie & Kathleen together
 |

I learned much during the day about my "process of expression" and it appeared that others did as well. Individual drawings were beautiful as were the images created by participants working in pairs. We placed each drawing in the circle between activities to let color and design move us ever more receptively into what art expression feels and looks like. At times it was difficult not to focus on ways to engage with these images, but that will occur in the January workshop. Our focus was on how the images emerged for each participant-the kind of paper chosen, the type of art materials used, the first mark made, etc. Next will come the types of conversations we can have with our images."
