 Thank you to Chinling Hsu!!

What a treat it was to have Chinling Hsu, Taiwan based performer and healing artist co-facilitate 2 workshops at Expressive Arts Florida with Victoria and Elizabeth on 4/11/11 and 4/17/11!

Combining Dynamic Meditation and the Expressive Arts, we moved the inner dynamic, swept away the dust, and allowed ourselves to let go in this free flowing, passionate and active creative process. We engaged in an intermodal process sound, movement, and visual art-making.  Our creativity was activated and flowing allowing us to tap into our inner wisdom, peace and tranquility.

A writing reflecting on this special experience...

I am voicing my body

I am embodying my voice

I am seeing within

I am feeling from the inside out

Through my mind's eye

I meet the underbelly of my mask

I hear the quiet

I breathe fully

I am full

I am empty

I am hungry

I taste freedom

We look forward to Chinling's Sarasota offerings again next year!  Contact us if you would like to purchase Chinling's CD: "Be Your Own Light". We sell them at EAF!

 AFFINITY GROUP PROCESS

At our April Expressive Arts Community Networking, we presented the "Affinity Group". Kathleen learned this process at California Institute for Integral Studies EXA training certificate program, from Kate Donohue, Ph.D., (www.kate-donohue.com) in San Francisco.  It is a great way to explore group dynamics, through visual art. Different themes can be addressed, and it can be adapted to different groups and ages. At networking, we used it to explore our EXA community, and each individual's unique gift.

 affinitygroup

Here are the directions we used:

1. Each person created a visual art piece in response to the question:

*what is my own unique gift to the Expressive Arts or related field.

2. We bring our art to the circle, and, standing, hold our art up in front of us. We all quietly "take in" the images around the circle.

3. This process is about image relating to image. So, without really considering who made what image, we are just going to let the images themselves find connections.....

a. First, place your image on the floor, "where it goes".

(After all are placed, invite people to adjust theirs if they want)

b. Now, you may move the images around, as you wish, exploring connections and finding configuration. You may move any of the images, including your own. You do not need to take turns; just do this process until it comes to a natural conclusion.

c. Now, if you wish, you may move only your own image.

d. When complete, we all responded verbally to the sentence stem "I wonder......"

Below are 2 views of the final configuration:

EACN Affinity group1

EACN Affinity group2

Here are some of the participants words to describe this process:

"magnetic", "powerful", "surprising", "I found myself doing the same things I do in life: connecting, being careful not to hurt other's feelings", "shaking things up", "harmonizing", finding what I can offer". "endless possibilities"

"Centrifugal force", moving pictures"........Irene Moksha

Julia Riley shared her individual piece and a poem she wrote in response:

Passion's Journey

Passion for healing...

Comes from a little girl's dream of being a nurse

When her daddy lay dying.

Passion for nurses...

Comes when a nurse learns

There is no end to suffering.

Passion for art...

Comes in a quiet moment, early in the morning

When words are not enough.

Passion for life

Comes in ripples and waves

When it is clear life is a moment.

Passion for art and healing and life

Passion flower

 PAINTING YOUR CREATIVE EDGE

Thursdays  May 26, June 2, June 9

creativeedge6:30-9 pm

Facilitated by Victoria

In this workshop series we will go to periphery of our creativity, challenge our comfort zone, and see what comes next. By opening up to those things that seem just beyond our reach, and exploring them through the art process, we are able to gain a new awareness of ourselves and our life path. The process often gives new insights into our inner and outer worlds.

Using acrylic paints, canvas, journaling and more, participants will be asked to consider the following prompts in a three part series. Each week a new canvas will be worked on, concluding in a triptych of images.

Week 1: Where am I Now?

Week 2: Where am I Going?

Week 3: Where Do I Want to Be?

Fee: $110.  Includes canvases and basic acrylic paints. You are welcome to bring your own acrylics and brushes to supplement ours.

Expressive Arts Florida Institute is a two-level training program for those interested in pursuing the Expressive Arts as a professional path, whether integrating it into an existing career, or beginning a career in the expressive arts field.

An INTERMODAL EXPRESSIVE ARTS TRAINING PROGRAM, Expressive Arts Florida Institute is grounded in a firm belief that an integrated arts approach is a powerful agent of change. Students will participate in visual art-making of various kinds, writing, poetry, music, movement, drama, and guided visualization. An emphasis will be on the power of following the natural creative flow from one arts modality to another.

The learning format is THREE WEEKEND INTENSIVE COURSES  per calendar year, generally in January, April, and October in Sarasota, FL. Each weekend is 25 hours of class time. In addition, there is a one-day orientation program for new students. There are also elective credits, which students can often earn in their own community, online communication with an advisor, and a Practicum/Internship at the end of the second year.  We offer flexibility for entry of new students; they may start the program with any of the Level 1 weekend intensives. Our goal is to create a FLEXIBLE LEARNING FORMAT for students traveling to Sarasota from other areas.
