 Expressive Arts Intermodal Intensive

This gallery of images showcases the Intermodal Expressive Arts.   "Intermodal" means that the power for change is deepened by following our creative flow through visual art, writing, music/sound/voice, movement, poetry, drama, enactment, guided meditation, ceremony, nature, and more. This principle is one of the cornerstones of expressive arts practice - a holistic and integrated arts      approach.

Our new Expressive Arts Institute Certificate Program fully embraces the intermodal expressive arts.   We thank the participants of our first intensive training for allowing us to share photos from the weekend to inspire and teach others.     This course was designed as a journey through the modalities, with each person following the thread of their own creative process. It is one of the core courses of Expressive Arts Florida Institute.
 Come to the center...
 Witness the images....
 Share deeply....
Honor ourselves and each other with our mind, our body, our spirit.       Take in the messages

Take time to create...

Offer the fullness of ourselves....

Find a new path...

Follow our Hearts....

It is amazing what we can do, how we can change, what we can create, when we are in a safe and protected space. There is no place for the critic in Expressive Arts. We find that we can re-engage that wise and playful creative spirit that has always been our birthright.            Celebrate rhythm
 and power
 and peace.
We honor our personal stories     and our universal stories
 We make ourselves heard
and we reflect in quiet moments
We take in our own creations   and celebrate the gifts of the process.
We see ourselves in a new light...    and we are changed.
"This class exceeded my expectations.  I've been looking for this type of whole brain, whole self, soul self education my entire life.  (I'm fifty!).   This is truly an educational model for EVERYONE - adults, children, teens, abled, disabled, institutional and unstructured contexts.  I am thrilled to be at the forefront of what will be standard practice for how we live, work and play in the 22nd century."

"Having committed myself to a daily mandala for this year, I find I look forward to the end of the day and 'meeting myself.' I am nurtured and gladdened by this process. All feels safe within the confines of this sacred circle, and I look forward to sharing the experience with the residents with whom I have the privilege to work at an assisted living facility.. Can't quite get my elderly mother to participate but my 7 year old grandson finds it natural and has been doing some for the past two years. Witnessing and sharing with others is also therapeutic. As my colleague described, "mandala land" is a wonderful place to meet."

April 7: New Student Orientation

April 7-10: Expressive Arts for Body/Mind/Spirit
The focus of this course is on Intermodal Expressive Arts as a holistic field, effecting change in all aspects of human experience: body, mind and spirit. The course will explore ways in which the different arts modalities bring growth and change, and how they work together as a holistic model. A variety of individual and group experiential processes will be introduced which focus on physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual experience.
Oct. 13-16: The Scope of Expressive Arts
Individual, Group, and Community    This course introduces the scope or continuum of Expressive Arts work, from the intrapersonal, to the interpersonal, to the social/cultural/planetary.  Both individual and collaborative expressive arts processes will be utilized in this course, and some attention will be given to designing and facilitating collaborative art projects.

Expressive Arts Florida Institute is a two-level training program for those interested in pursuing the Expressive Arts as a professional path, whether integrating it into an existing career, or beginning a career in the expressive arts field.
An INTERMODAL EXPRESSIVE ARTS TRAINING PROGRAM, Expressive Arts Florida Institute is grounded in a firm belief that an integrated arts approach is a powerful agent of change. Students will participate in visual art-making of various kinds, writing, poetry, music, movement, drama, and guided visualization. An emphasis will be on the power of following the natural creative flow from one arts modality to another.
The learning format is THREE WEEKEND INTENSIVE COURSES   per calendar year, generally in January, April, and October in Sarasota, FL. Each weekend is 25 hours of class time. In addition, there is a one-day orientation program for new students. There are also elective credits, which students can often earn in their own community, online communication with an advisor, and a Practicum/Internship at the end of the second year.  We offer flexibility for entry of new students; they may start the program with any of the Level 1 weekend intensives. Our goal is to create a FLEXIBLE LEARNING FORMAT for students traveling to Sarasota from other areas.

  IN THE SPOTLIGHT:
Chinling Hsu

On Wednesday January 26, Chinling Hsu facilitated our Expressive Arts Community Networking where 17 Expressive Arts Practitioners, artists, and students got together to share ideas, try out new possibilities, and exchange information.  Chinling guided us in a rich experience using sounding, toning and movement.  She took us on a journey, teaching us to listen to the organic beauty of our voices and how to use the voice as an instrument naturally connecting mind, body and spirit.  Chinling also captivated the group by the sounds of her crystal singing bowls and chanting.  We are grateful to Chinling for sharing her gifts with our Expressive Arts Community!

Chinling's Bio:
A gifted and respected sound healer, Chinling has been an expressive arts consultant, teacher, and facilitator for more than 10 years. Creative and inventive, she has facilitated workshops in sound healing and expressive arts in Taiwan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, China and is now building a following for her healing art workshops in the United States. Expanding her artistry towards new horizons, she now weaves dance/movement, drawing, and writing into her transpersonal sound healing work, and shares her wisdom on how we can all use our voices to effortlessly resonate with our physical bodies and our own spirituality.
Singing has been Chinling Hsu's prayer for many years. A Taiwan based performer and healing artist, she expresses her soul by allowing her voice to fly whenever it wants to go, without words. This gives her even more freedom and range to merge into what the universe wants her to be; resonating as a medium who brings a deepfelt and transformative experience to those who she sings for. In this way Chinling is sharing the expression of transcendent healing energy at that specific moment.

We are excited about the possibility of collaborating with Chinling to offer future workshops and sessions during her stay here in Sarasota through April.
Stay tuned for more information and workshop dates.
Chinling's CD Be Your Own Light is on sale now at Expressive Arts Florida.
