"Artwork reminds us of our own higher possibilities, our own deepest nature, our own most profound ground, which we are all invited to rediscover....to express something you are not yet, but that you can become"
Ken Wilber

"Art helps maintain our creative excitement about life, and, at its best, art can inspire and transform us. The mission of art advances as individual artists express their culture's view of the world, in a personally hewn collective vision"
Alex Grey

"I dream my painting, and then I paint my dream"
Vincent van Gogh

"To create means to relate. The root meaning of the word "art" is "to fit together" and we all do this every day. Not all of us are painters but we are all artists. Each time we fit things together, we are creating - whether it is to make a loaf of bread,
 a child, a day"

Corita Kent

"I believe that each work of art, whether it is a work of great genius, or something very small, comes to the artists and says, "Here I am. Enflesh me. Give birth to me."
Madeleine L'Engle

Update

We have updated the Institute Page
with Course Descriptions, Guiding Principles, Tuition structure, and more.

Our Admissions Policy and Application form will be posted soon.

Expressive Arts Florida Institute is a two-level training program for those interested in pursuing the Expressive Arts as a professional path, whether integrating it into an existing career, or beginning a career in the expressive arts field.

An INTERMODAL EXPRESSIVE ARTS TRAINING PROGRAM, Expressive Arts Florida Institute is grounded in a firm belief that an integrated arts approach is a powerful agent of change. Students will participate in visual art-making of various kinds, writing, poetry, music, movement, drama, and guided visualization. An emphasis will be on the power of following the natural creative flow from one arts modality to another.

The learning format is THREE WEEKEND INTENSIVE COURSES  per calendar year, generally in January, April, and October in Sarasota, FL. Each weekend is 25 hours of class time. In addition, there is a one-day orientation program for new students. There are also elective credits, which students can often earn in their own community, online communication with an adviser, and a Practicum/Internship at the end of the second year.  We offer flexibility for entry of new students; they may start the program with any of the Level 1 weekend intensives. Our goal is to create a FLEXIBLE LEARNING FORMAT for students traveling to Sarasota from other areas.

For those who are interested in getting a head-start on their training, consider the Pre-Institute Expressive Arts Intensive on January 13-16, 2011. Details and registration information here. See all the details here.

ieataInternational Expressive Arts Therapy Association (IEATA) News...
·         We are grateful to be an active part of our blossoming International professional Expressive Arts organization - IEATA!

·        IEATA is currently focusing on developing Regional Groups for members of the organization to connect with one another near and far.  Elizabeth Bornstein and Sheri Gaynor are the IEATA Regional Committee Co-Chairs. Their focus has been creating a strong network to keep IEATA members connected and encourage sharing of activities and ideas with other members in their regions.  In September 2010, the IEATA Members Network site hosted by Ning.com was introduced to IEATA Members.  This Network is a great forum for IEATA members as well as the Regional Groups to connect with one another. Regional Groups have been developing beautifully and each group's format is organic, which allows for creativity and region-specific needs.  Florida is a part of the South Atlantic Regional Group which also includes:Delaware, Maryland, District of Columbia, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.  Victoria Domenichello-Anderson, Ella Hill and Meredith Casper are the Regional Coordinators for this Region. If you are an IEATA member, stay tuned for your invitation to sign on and Regional Group information. If you are not a member and would like to join, please visit  www.ieata.org/membership.html. If you have any questions, please contact Elizabeth and Sheri at regional@ieata.org

·        IEATA and TAE Peru will present the next IEATA International Conference, August 10-14, 2011 in Lima, Peru with post-conference sessions in Cusco on August 16. For additional information visit: www.ieata.org/conference.html
