Community Indicators Website Update

MWPAI Philip Johnson Building
MWPAI recently received a grant for 75th anniversary programs.

Just over a year ago, The Community Foundation, in partnership with Mohawk Valley EDGE and United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica Area, launched hocindicators.org. This website holds data and analysis from the Community Indicators project that these three organizations, collaborating as the Leadership Alliance for a Vital Community, had begun in 2009.

With new information from many data sources, such as Census 2010 and annual New York State statistics becoming available, the website is being updated as information is released. The indicator for New York State Arts Grants was among the first updated this year.

The new data for this indicator shows us that New York State funding for the arts has dropped over the years, and funding in Herkimer ($0.24 spent per resident) and Oneida ($1.60 spent per resident) counties reflects this.

The Community Foundation understands that arts are important to communities as they help attract tourism, bring income and promote regional pride and identity. The Foundation's Grants Committee recently awarded one grant to Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute for signature events to celebrate its 75th Anniversary and one to Glimmerglass Festival that will help them attract audiences from Herkimer and Oneida counties.

Be sure to keep an eye on this website for more updates...and on The Foundation's site to see how we respond to the changing needs of our community.
