EXTENSIONS APPROVED
On June 30th, Congress passed an extension of the closing deadline for those using the Homebuyer Tax Credit.(H.R. 5623) The extension applies only to transactions that have ratified contracts in place as of April 30th, 2010. The new closing date will be September 30th, 2010.
In addition, the Senate passed the National Flood Insurance Program Extension Act of 2010 (H.R. 5569), an extension of the National Flood Insurance Program until September 30, 2010. This will allow transactions to move forward. The bill is retroactive and covers the lapse period from June 1, 2010, to the date of enactment of the extension.

EPA DELAYS LEAD-BASED PAINT ENFORCEMENT
New lead-based paint rules regarding renovations and repairs went into effect in April, but with renovators having difficulties getting the required certification training, the U.S. EPA has delayed enforcement until October of 2010.

FANNIE MAE INCREASES PENALTIES FOR DEFAULTERS
Fannie Mae will increase penalties against borrowers who walk away from their mortgage when they have the ability to pay or haven't completed a workout alternative in good faith. Those defaulters will be ineligible for a Fannie Mae-backed loan for seven years.

REMEMBER-MEMBERS OF MILITARY CAN USE TAX CREDIT UNTIL APRIL 30TH, 2011
Qualifying members of the military, Foreign Service and intelligence community who are serving extended duty outside of the United States have until April 30th, 2011 to use the homebuyer tax credit.
