SGL Team Session 2

SGL Team Fall 2011

Since being in Trinidad, I have been so overwhelmed by the presence of God. The church is so passionate and on fire for God, that you can't help but catch that fire. I know being here is going to help instill that passion in me, even more. Trinidad is a beautiful place, from the beaches to the weather to it's people. It is an honor to be here, and I thank God for His faithfulness in giving me this opportunity to learn ministy in another country. ~Brandi

I agree that the churches here have so much more passion and life! I have also been greatly moved by my Perspectives class. This study has opened my eyes to the passion that God has for missions and the great love He has had for every man, woman and child He ever created. Most people are taught that the Jews are God's chosen people and Gentiles were only included after Jesus came, but that is simply not true. I will forever be aware of how God reaches out to all nations even in the Old Testament. I love having my world as I know it turned upside down. I love the experience that Trinidad is allowing me to have in my missions journey. I also feel very blessed to watch my son's walk with the Lord grow ever stronger in being here. ~Jacque

Greetings!

We have been on the ride of our lives! Hold on! We will take you there with this short glimpse of our time in Trinidad so far!

In our first 14 months of ministry in Trinidad with the School of Global Leadership, 23 people have come from the US to Trinidad to work with us. They have stayed from 8 days to four and a half months. We have had approximately 35 services and taught 34 classes and workshops in churches. We have been involved in many outreaches and ministry opportunities in various communities around Trinidad. In addition to all of this, 132 people have accepted Jesus, through SGL ministry opportunities. One of the most recent was a Hindu lady, with the jewel still in her in her forehead, who came to the altar.  We have also attended numerous events and services at many different churches!

A Week in the Life of SGL

There is no typical day or week in the life of a missionary. You must be ready to change your plans at a moments notice for the unexpected and unplanned. Evenings at times consist of ministry opportunities. Within that framework, we have a weekly schedule. This is what it looks like:

(We are blessed to have a classroom provided by the Open Bible Churches TT National Office!)

Mondays: Day off (downtime is critical for the

                                health of missionaries)

Tuesdays: Individual study time

                  Class: Principles of Missions

Wed.:         Individual Study Time

                   Class: Initial Language Acquisition

                   (Currently Spanish and Hindi)

Thurs.:       Perspectives on the World Christian                        Movement: Missions course through

                   U.S. Center for World Mission

Friday:       Ministry day; Special speakers

Sat.:           Ministry day; field trips

Sunday:      Mornings at Marabella Open Bible

                   Evenings at First Open Bible

(The team often has services in other                      churches on Sundays)

Mission trips from the States!

We have been blessed with Missions Teams, couples and individuals from the States coming for a Missions Experience in Trinidad and Tobago. Our most recent guest was Renae Goysich from Springdale, Open Bible Church in Springdale, Pennsylvania.  This was her second visit (her husband, Dave came with her last time) and we had a wonderful week of ministry and fellowship. Renae's church blessed the Operation Children's Home Director and his wife with first aid supplies and a cash gift. The women of Springdale Open Bible purchased a much needed fan for Operation Smile.  Thank you Women of Springdale!

Renae says:
for me SGL  has been the culmination of a lifetime dream of being a missionary. Anyone who feels the call of God on their life needs to be here. To receive mission training while on the mission field is invaluable and life altering! An awesome display of what God can do if only you are willing to GO!!!
