If you are using Facebook then read this. Around the holidays crooks and scammers work their hardest to victimize people. Facebook is the new frontier for fraud. There are a number of things to watch for. here are some tips:
1. Create a brand new password for your fb account that is not the same password for your bank and other accounts. Most people use the same password for everything in their life.
2.Don't open a video when you are not sure who has sent it. The crook entices you to click it open with a cute phrase like" LOL. Look at the video I found of you." When you open the video malware is installed on your computer that records your keystrokes. The thief now has all of your sign in and password info.
3.Do not add a friend if you do not know the person.
4.Do not answer "cute" quiz questionnaires like the following;
"Can you do this? My middle name_______, my age__________, my favorite soda_______, My best friend___________, my favorite color_______, my mom's name___________, my birthday______________, my favorite food____________" How many of these questions are the same ones banks ask to verify your identity?
The bottom line is that Facebook has a number of great and fun things going for it but just like anything else these days - use common sense. |
