Did You Know?

On January 18, 2010 legislation was signed into law requiring all adult back seat passengers 18 years of age and older to buckle up when riding in a motor vehicle.

While violation of this lifesaving requirement is a secondary offense (a ticket may only be issued to the unbuckled adult passenger when the driver of the vehicle has committed some other motor vehicle violation), the New Jersey Child Passenger Safety Coalition urges all adults in the back seat to buckle up every ride.

In the event of a crash, unbelted back seat passengers become bullets, putting not only themselves, but everyone in the vehicle at risk. That's because unbelted back seat passengers continue to move at the same rate of speed as the vehicle they are riding in until they hit something -- the seat back, the dashboard, the windshield, the driver or another passenger. It's also not uncommon for unbelted passengers to be thrown from a vehicle and either crushed by that vehicle or another on the road.

Since 2000, when the state's primary seat belt law went into effect, 272 unbelted backseat passengers have died in traffic crashes. Last year, 73% of back seat passengers killed in traffic crashes in New Jersey were unbelted. A seat belt increases your chances of surviving a crash by as much as 75%.

Please make proper restraint of all vehicle occupants your top priority.  Buckle up, everyone, every ride!

Greetings!

It's hard to believe that Summer has just about come and gone. Hopefully there was time to catch a little bit of rest and relaxation. If not Labor Day weekend  is around the corner. We are open for business over the full holiday weekend should the need arise.

In the meantime we are on high alert making peparations for the impending Hurricane Irene. We will be fully staffed and ready to roll through the storm. We hope that it is more media hype than anything and wish you all a safe weekend.

God Bless,
Nick Testa

The Benefits of Meditation For Stress Relief

Some of the benefits of meditation are:-

Reduces anxiety attacks as it lowers the levels of blood lactate.

Builds self confidence.

Increases serotonin which influences moods and behaviour. Low levels of serotonin are associated with depression, headaches and insomnia.

Enhances energy, strength and vigour.

Helps keep blood pressure normal

Reduces stress and tension

Creates a state of deep relaxation and general feeling of wellbeing

Increases concentration and strengthens the mind

Helps reduce heart disease

Helps with weight loss

It sounds goofy but give it a try! Just 15 minutes a day can have a tremendous effect on your overall well being.

Shifted Load of Steel

A towing company is not all about recovery or even towing for that matter. Here are some pictures from this month of a trailer with a shifted load. We were able to assist the company with our rotator to reset the load so the driver could go on his way safely. Great job Tom!

While we most likely will not have to board up our homes and businesses here are a few tips for preparing for Irene:

Count on the power being out for at least a short time.
Remember that ATM's will be non-operating, so have at least some hard cash in your Hurricane Kit to see you through the storm.

When TV and computer games no longer operate, board games or a deck of cards come in handy! Arts and crafts, crayons and downloadable coloring pages are always great distractions for the kids - so make sure you've stored some of these supplies in a tote bag or in the car trunk.

If you have the opportunity to get a generator, do so and make sure you have gas or diesel in an approved container for re-fueling as necessary.

Consider stocking your Hurricane Kit with the following: extra cash, generator, batteries, flash lights, battery operated radio/television, candles, bottled water, toilet paper, non-perishable foods such as cereal or crackers, canned goods, a can opener, a small cooler, candles, prescription medicines and any over-the-counter remedies you use regularly; and if you have small children - diapers, baby wipes, formula, baby food.

STAY INSIDE. However tempting it may be to videotape or take photos of the storm, be sure to shoot from indoors - where it's safe, and dry!
