Meet the Staff | |
Anne Alvarez
 Anne Alvarez had no idea what a records management company was when she started at Jayhawk File Express two years ago. "I was just desperate for a full time job," Anne admitted.
She jumped right in, however, and started learning all the various tasks of the service bureau (imaging department). For the past year, Anne has been the main scanner operator, working to get the best quality at the fastest possible speed for Jayhawk File Express clients.
Photography is a personal passion of Anne's since she was in high school where she first learned to take pictures on the yearbook committee. She continues to shoot anything that catches her fancy which usually includes landscapes, nature and interesting architecture. Of course, she is also the designated family photographer and ends up making digital scrapbooks for everyone as well.
Anne is married to Al, the tall, dark and handsome love of her life. She has two grown children; a son age 21 and a daughter age 23 plus two step daughters, ages 8 and 4. |

Kevin earned his Certified Records Manager (CRM) designation in 1996. He is currently the Senior Records & Information Manager for Perceptive Software, and prior to this position, was the Senior Manager Standards & Records Management for ARMA International.

| Medical IT Update | | |
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) have announced the availability of registration for the Medicare and Medicaid electronic health record (EHR) incentive programs. CMS and ONC encouraged broad participation and outlined online and in-person resources that are in place to assist eligible professionals and eligible hospitals who wish to participate.
Beginning January 3, 2011, registration will be available for eligible health care professionals and eligible hospitals who wish to participate in the Medicare EHR incentive program. Most states likely will launch their Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs during the spring and summer of 2011. |

Legislative Update | | |
Risky Business
 Using e-mail for attorney/client communication can be tricky, as shown in a Superior Court of Massachusetts decision issued October 2010. The defendant's attorney used e-mail to communicate with opposing counsel and blind copied his client with the "bcc" function.
Problems ensued when the client responded to the e-mail with a "reply all" - which had the effect of sending his response to the opposing counsel, as well as his own attorney.
Quoting from the opinion: "On balance, and perhaps with some indulgence for human fallibility, the Court finds that the defendant met his burden of showing that he took reasonable (although not maximum) steps to preserve the confidentiality of the particular communication in issue. The Court allowed the motion to strike, and will preclude further use of the e-mail. The defendant and his counsel should not expect similar indulgence again."
