Serving on the board of directors for a Community Action Agency can be very fulfilling, but also much more extensive and intensive than serving on another nonprofit board. Community Action Agencies operate various programs with numerous funding sources. Each program has different rules, different income guidelines and different audits. Additionally, most Community Action Agencies are also now looking at ways to raise funds to help supplement the decline in grant dollars and increased customers. Being a board member is not simply an hour meeting a month and walking out the door. Here are some helpful tips for being an effective board member:

Two Community Action Agencies Receive Director's Awards for Excellence in Housing and Community Development
On July 25, the Ohio Department of Development presented their 2012 Director's Awards for Excellence in Housing and Community Development during the Ohio Conference of Community Development's annual summer meeting. Four awards were given in the categories of Affordable Housing, Community and Economic Development, Homelessness and Supportive Housing, and Innovation in Housing and Community Development.
