OACAA 2012 Annual Summer Conference a Successful Journey
The OACAA 2012 Annual Summer Conference reached the end of the line on June 20, as another successful conference came to a close. The journey began on June 18 with sessions by the Office of Community Assistance, offering attendees the opportunity to meet new and recently-promoted staff members, learn about OCEAN software enhancements and the PIPP Plus program.

Ironton-Lawrence County CAO Work Farm Program a Win, Win, Win
Ironton-Lawrence County Community Action Organization has partnered with area agencies to organize a work farm program where low-level offenders receive an alternative sentence to work on a farm rather than serve jail time. The offenders receive job skills and training, the jail and community food banks and programs will receive the vegetables grown on the farm, and the county will save money on food. The pilot program is truly a win, win, win for the community!

The Ohio Legislature concluded an unusually busy election year spring session on June 13, 2012. This heavy workload was mainly due to the Governor-initiated mid-biennial review plan (MBR) introduced in late March. The MBR included a number of reforms to energy policy, education, and provisions designed to help local governments be more efficient.
