Community Action: Strengthening Ohio's Communities

Community Action Month will be in May, just a little over a month away. OACAA has developed plans to help promote awareness of Community Action in the month of May, including a theme, Strengthening Ohio's Communities. To learn more about our plans and how your agency can get involved, click here.

Hashtag of Promise: #CommunityAction

For Community Action Month this May, the Community Action Partnership and Community Action state associations across the country are embarking on a Twitter campaign and we need your help! On May 8, we want to make Community Action a household name by tweeting about it as much as possible using the hashtag #CommunityAction. If this all sounds foreign to you, don't worry, we'll be offering a Twitter 99 workshop on April 13 for those not ready for the 101 level yet. Click here for all the details.

The Ohio Association of Community Action Agencies has launched a new blog, Community Action in Ohio. This blog will share some of the ways in which Ohio's 50 Community Action Agencies have helped people in their community. You can follow the blog at http://communityactionohio.blogspot.com.

We will regularly be posting success stories from agencies on the blog in order to increase awareness of the good works that Community Action does. In order to have regular content for the blog and keep the public's interest, we need agencies to continue to share their success stories. If you would like to share a success story on our blog, click here and answer a few simple questions or contact Colleen at colleen@oacaa.org or 614-224-8500.

Legislative Update

Bills to Watch

After a short break, due to the March 6th primary, the Ohio General Assembly returned to business last week in what should be a very active couple of months. Among a number of other pieces of legislation, committees will be debating the mid-biennium review bill, the capital bill, the budget corrections bill along with a capital reappropriations bill. With all 99 House seats and half of the Senate's 33 seats up for election in November, the legislature hopes to conclude their work by the end of May, so members can then hit the campaign trail. With all of this activity, click here for an update on a few of the bills OACAA is following:
