WHO'S RACE ARE YOU RUNNING?
In your work or in your life, every day, you are running a race whether you do it consciously or not. Some of us choose to run our own race whilst others just go along with the pack, locally and globally.
We are all a part of an eclectic, Universal race and yet we still believe we are the only person on the planet when it comes to our view of the world.
We constantly judge, dismiss or disagree with other people's viewpoints and yet there are still so many of us living our lives according to the wishes of others and the sad part is - not many of us realize this. It happened as we were growing and learning and shaping our future.
We forgot for a moment that we have an opinion, a viewpoint, beliefs and values and then that moment became an hour which turned into days, months, weeks and now a lifetime of running someone else's race.
How did that happen? Did it happen when we were children and were told that children should be seen and not heard. Or was it at school when our teacher told us to "stop being silly" because we got creative with our school work?
Maybe it happened when we met the love of our life and found out that what we believed wasn't true at all because our significant other knows best and he/she said that our beliefs were ridiculous. Have you noticed that women in particular always make the other person right?
Maybe politicians, local government and our environments dictated our opinions.
Or maybe we just stopped believing in ourselves, our dreams, our aspirations and put limitations on our accomplishments. Besides, it is so much easier and simpler to just be part of the status quo, isn't it?
Your inner gremlins might sound a bit like this:
- "What would be the point of being successful, wealthy, joyful, it sounds like a lot of hard work and life is so simple when we don't aspire to greatness."
- "Yes, let's just run this race that has been "programmed" into our hard drive, don't rock the boat. Don't make plans, set goals and achieve them. Too hard."
- "After all there are already way too many people doing what we could do and they are great at it. Can't see the point really."
- "Imagine if we went to all that trouble and then didn't succeed. Be a waste of time don't you think? Yes, much better to not even bother. All that learning and growing for nothing."
What do you think? Any of these sound familiar?
Which side of the fence are you on?
Do you get a kick out of taking on new challenges like my friend and colleague Zoe (Lifenergy.net) who is running her first marathon in her 40's, taking her business to new exciting heights and still has the time to enjoy the beauty of nature, to nurture her family, take beautiful photographs and create beautiful paintings?. Zoe is willing to play a bigger game and run her own race on her own terms.
OR are you more like my first example, putting it all into the "too hard" basket?
Either one is fine as long as you are happy with your choice and you aren't kidding yourself. Life has a way of sneaking up on us when we least expect it if we don't take our turn at the helm.
A question for you : If you continue to live as you are for the next 10 years and you are still doing exactly what you are doing now, will you be happy with that and be able to look back with a smile on your face?
Only you know the answer to that and if you answered NO then what will you do about it? From my own experience I can tell you it is never too late to start.
For those of you who don't know me well, I left my very cushy office job in the city to go and dig up roads with my local council when I was 41 and stayed there for 3 years actually blazing a path for other women. - I LOVED it and got super fit in the process.
I became a qualified fitness professional at the age of 49 and continued on my path of self growth, hungry to learn and with a specific interest in the brain, how it works and human behaviour which led to the study of many coaching modalities and recently led to me acquiring my NLP Practitioner Certification.
I would like to repeat that it is never too late - or too early - to find that thing that makes your heart sing and then do something about it.
My current focus and soon to be new coaching niche is in helping "late bloomer" entrepreneurs and service professionals who are struggling with getting started, getting moving and stepping up to create a fabulous and profitable business.
I will be helping them specifically with step by step strategies, tools and templates to make it all so much simpler, do-able and fun. It took me years and I don't want others to go through what I did so if you know anyone who fits that category please let them know that help is here and I will be announcing my plans very soon. In the meantime:
If you are looking for new "software" to change your way of thinking and being I can help you turn your life around, one simple step at a time. Design the life you want and on your own terms. If you don't .I guarantee there are plenty of others just itching to create it for you.
COACHES CHALLENGE
Pick a time in the distant future and visualize yourself sitting down to write a letter to a friend you haven't seen since now, today and tell them in great detail how your life has been over the last 10 or 20 years. (Actually see yourself and the 'story' you are telling)
You can actually write the letter and go into detail about how things changed when ..................... and then you .................... Write this as if it had happened exactly the way you would have wanted it.
Really get into the details, the how, who, where, just as if it had actually occurred. No detail is too small.
When you finish the letter visualize it all again and then put the letter away somewhere and forget about it.
NOTE: If any part of this topic made you feel a little 'uneasy' as you read it, then maybe there is something in your own life that you would like to either complete or begin or maybe there is some new challenge awaiting you.
We all have to start somewhere and so many of us get caught up in the "too" syndrome. Too .................... fill in the blank and then delete it forever. You are never too .......................... for anything, believe me.
You can't be experienced without experience, you can't drive without learning how, you can't be a business woman without learning about business, you can't run a marathon without training.... add your own.
If you have a case of the "too's" and it is holding you back, I can help you get out of your own way and step into your smarter, better self. Email me at joanbell@abetterlifebydesign.com and I will get back to you within 24hrs. No obligation, no pressure and it will be fun!
