Happy August,

 

Yesterday I had to really boot myself out of my comfort zone to go for a ride in the cold and wind then about 10k into the ride I watched a cow who had just given birth as she was cleaning her gorgeous new calf. On the way back this beautiful little black calf was walking around as if he owned the paddock.

 

It's days like that when my cup really does "runneth over" and even though gratitude is a big part of who I am I find these little reminders of the joy of everyday life heartwarming and deeply touching.

 

Today I want to talk about why we can't get what we want and give a few tips to help you change this. I won't be pulling any punches because before you know it, it will be 2012 and I'm willing to stick my neck out a little if it will help you to live a life you love - in 2011.

I have introduced "Cyclotherapy" this month which is my fun way of introducing the monthly main topic. As a mad keen cyclist if I'm not riding my bike I can still let it be part of what I'm doing. Love to know what you think, is it a Yay! or a Nay?

Cant' get what you want? Read this.

 

Have you ever wondered why when you set goals that you often don't achieve them? Let's take some time this month to get this right once and for all.

  

There are 3 main steps to setting goals.

  1. You must know what you really want.
  2. Know what you are up against.
  3. Know how to design strategies for success. 

Simple, yes? Not quite. Before we begin to set goals we need to look at 3

vital ingredients that must be in place to create your Better Life by Design.

  

Number 1. = Your VALUES

 

You need to be very clear of your values around each goal so that each step becomes congruent and desirable and 'fits' with your way of "being in the world" (sounds a bit woo-woo, but bear with me)

  

Number 2 = Your BELIEFS

 

What do you believe about this goal? Do you actually believe it is possible? Do you believe you have what it takes in terms of skills, resources, money, time, environments? If not where can you get them?

  

Number 3 = Your ROLE

 

What is your role in this goal? Let me give you an example, beginning with your goal.

  

"My goal is to make my creative dream a reality." This sounds nice, but we need to make it more tangible, give it more depth.

 

For instance. "To have my artwork displayed in 3 specialty stores before the end of Novemer 2011" - you could also add a number of sales too if you really want to get specific.

 

Your VALUES around this might be -

  1. FREEDOM (value) to choose how my Artwork is displayed
  2. FLEXIBILITY (value) on price of Artwork
  3. OPTIONS (value) to decide on time-frames

Your BELIEFS.

 

"I believe my Artwork is beautiful and will be appreciated. I believe the cost of my work is consistent with the quality and buyers will be happy to pay for the joy it will bring them.

 

Your ROLE or ROLES

 

 My role is that of an Artist, an Entrepreneur and a Successful Business woman and I wear each hat confidently and competently. (this could also be a belief.)

 

By now the goal is tangible, doable and achievable. It now has legs and all we need now is to give it wings. The wings are the actionable steps that you will do consistently to make this happen.

 

It really is that simple. If you are chasing the same goals month after month, year after year,.... STOP... Do something else! OR give yourself 3 months to achieve some part of that goal (or all of it if it's achievable in that time) Be relentless, consistent, confident and BE CONGRUENT. Do what you say you will do. No excuses.

 

Ok that may be a little harsh and I'm fine with that if it gets you some fantastic results. You can dream, plan, talk about it 'til the cows come home BUT if you don't actually DO something (consistently) it will NEVER manifest.

 

Make sure it is something you really want, for you - no-one else - then follow the steps. Follow your dream.

 

So, you might have to get up an hour earlier, or talk to people you'd rather not talk to or make some lifestyle changes or get out in the cold. If you are willing to set the bar higher and stand up for your dream or goal then nothing will stop you, not even you! Go for it! I believe in you 100%!

COACHES CHALLENGE  ACTION

 

Take some time to read this again and change "Artwork" for whatever it is you want to achieve currently in your life, then go through the steps and create your plan of action. If I can help please contact me at joanbell@abetterlifebydesign.com.
