| LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT | |

Dear PSWIFT Members and Friends,
It's the holiday season. Hope you're in a giving mood. Our December mixer benefits BookPALS and we're asking you to bring at least one book that is appropriate for reading to a first through fifth grader. BookPALS is doing wonders for so many at risk children in our Valley and we need to continuously support it. If you're not certain about which book, a donation at the mixer entrance desk will happily be accepted.
The educational seminar was so successful. Leanna Bonamici and Patti Gribow did a remarkable job getting a panel that gave us valuable information. Thanks, Ladies. And, a huge thank you to Bob Marra for moderating.
Looking to the future - we have a January annual meeting and speaker that is going to knock your socks off. How do you get a book/script sold to a studio or optioned by a production company? That is probably the question I'm asked most often. Well, Literary Manager, ex-agent, Amy Schiffman will tell us how it's done. She is responsible for maneuvering some of the most famous titles of recent years through the system, onto the screen.
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving - filled with way too many calories and lots of reasons to be thankful.

FILM & TELEVISION INDUSTRY SUMMIT-WRAP UP | |
The event started out with a Video from the California Film Commission, supplied by Sheri Davis, the Inland Empire Film Commissioner, about 'runaway' productions and how much it is affecting the state. It is drastic.
The esteemed panel addressed the assets we have in our community; our challenges - and made suggestions for solutions:
Bob Marra was an awesome MC - he was well prepared and never let the conversation lag. He also moderated a very spirited and informative Q&A at the end with members really participating
Assets:
Plenty of sunshine for shooting
Production friendly vendors
Local crew base - present was the IATSE Local 707 rep who let us know there are over 60 qualified union crew based locally with over 100 more close by
Growing education base for this industry
New Film Academy
ArtsOasis study on the Cultural Arts Cluster
Challenges:
The lack of California State incentives to work here
Appropriate studio space
Lack of marketing of the area
Lack of support services: lighting & grip, post, etc.
Local programming options: On Demand only available in packages, not enough reach to make it feasible for sponsors to support local programming
Solutions:
Perhaps producing a magazine style booklet or printed version of our psfilmoffice.com to plug our incredible variety of locations and services that the film commissioner would get to potential productions.
Create our own Community wide Incentives package and promote the heck out of it.
Get community involved: CVEP, CVAG, CVA
Continued relevance of the ArtsOasis Cluster Study
We look forward to next year's Summit to see the results of the implementation of these efforts.
