Sherry Halperin                          LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
                                                    Sherry Halperin

Dear Members and Friends of PSWIFT,

Happy Birthday to US !!!    2011 marks our 10th anniversary as a chapter of Women In Film.   So mark your calendars for a celebration on Jan. 11th at the La Quinta Country Club at 5 PM.   Not only will there be cake, but our annual meeting will feature a talk by Gail Parent, noted comedy writer and producer of shows like The Golden Girls, The Carol Burnett Show and Tracey Takes On with Tracey Ulman.  More to come on this.  It's going to be a great event.

Meanwhile, we all enjoyed listening to and meeting Lindsay Wagner at our last luncheon.   What a charming woman and so enlightened.

PSWIFT really doesn't ask much of its members.   But, as president, I'm asking that every one of you support our upcoming Broken Glass Awards on March 4th.   It's our one and only fund raiser of the year.   We've kept the price low - same as last year - in order for all of you to enjoy this amazing event.  So save your shekels and pennies and yens and pesos and plan on attending this year's BGA.  Our success is up to you and all the friends you bring.

See you at Saks on Dec. 16th ready to snack, schmooze and shop.

                                                                            Best,

                                                                            Sherry

SUPPORT  BOOKPALS

Tere Britton
Tere Britton, BookPALS Coordinator

PSWIFT gratefully acknowledges the DONATION

from OUT OF THE BOX Gold Store.

Out of the Box took from their profits 10% of the cost of the gold,

and customers could specificy it be given to the charity of their choice.

PSWIFT received $311 to go to our BookPALS program.

BookPALS is founded on a clear premise:  Children must be exposed to the magic

of books to develop a love of reading.  Who better to make that magic come alive

than actors, gifted in the art of storytelling?

Our volunteer actors read aloud to at-risk children grades 1-5 at local public schools.  Help us stamp out illiteracy in the Coachella Valley!
PSWIFT and its members are proud supporters of the BookPALS Literacy Program. Please go to our website (under Events)  to make your TAX DEDUCTIBLE donation
to keep this valuable program going.
Several of our members have found an easy way to support BookPALS...
by simply adding their donation to their membership renewals,
they are helping keep this much needed project going.
  And, it's TAX DEDUCTIBLE -- A WIN-WIN for everyone.

After a party in his fabulous mansion, Lance finds himself alone with a man who identifies himself as FRANK, whom Lance soon comes to realize is a grief-stricken father whose daughter was killed by a copy-cat murderer who used the exact same methods as in the movies to torture and kill Frank's beloved daughter--and Frank holds Lance responsible...

PATTI GRIBOW - "CONVERSATIONS ABOUT..." SERIES

Patti GFeb. 13, 2011 - "Aging in Hollywood and Other Professions"

The 1980s was the first time in television history when viewers saw more positive portrayals of aging on programs such as "The Golden Girls," "Empty Nest," "Father Dowling Mysteries" and "Murder, She Wrote" where audiences followed the lives of older protagonists.  Yet, Hollywood is traditionally a younger person's venue with programming targeting the traditional 18-34 year-old consumers. As baby boomers age, and with the recent success of 88 year-old Betty White, it makes us wonder if things are changing.  Join Patti Gribow and a panel of actors, agents, casting directors and experts as they discuss the implications, and sometimes repercussions, of aging in Hollywood and other professions.

March 13, 2011 - "Marketing and Self Promotion"

The recent economic decline and the high unemployment rate make it more important than ever to sell yourself and create a positive self-image.  Whether it's during a job interview, a sales call, or a neighborhood party, marketing and promoting yourself remains important, regardless of the economy.  Numerous actors, agents, and successful business people know this first-hand.  For instance, look at entertainers such as Marilyn Monroe and Cary Grant, who created mediated personas, and more recently Madonna and Cher, who reinvent themselves regularly to target newer audiences.  Join Gribow and a panel of celebrities, agents, business people and experts as they discuss the "whys" and "hows" of marketing yourself.
