LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT Sherry Halperin
Dear Members and Friends of PSWIFT,
OK - where did the summer go? I blinked and it was gone.
We've been working on a stellar lineup for this coming season and I'm hoping by sending you the calendar that you will save the PSWIFT dates. The success of our functions depends on you - our loyal members and friends.
We're starting to gather committees for our annual BGA awards to be held March 4, 2011. So contact Elaine Church at ECPCHURCH@AOL.COM to volunteer. Not only is it fun but you will get a discount on your BGA ticket.
Lastly, I want to congratulate members Kim Waltrip and Denise DuBarry Hay on the huge strides they've made in the Indie Film world. They've taken dreams and made them into realities with hard work, innovative thinking and creative tactics. Job well done.
We all have dreams. I'm here to say that we're never too old or too jaded to make them come true. Use PSWIFT. Come to the luncheons. You never know what you will learn or who you will meet.
Best,
Sherry
><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><
Please note: You may see some repeated news from our summer Newsletter. Many of you were away, or put your emails on hold... For those of you who did catch it, please keep reading... Lots of NEW news here as well.

DeANN LUBELL | DeANN LUBELL appeared on The Jacqueline Bachar Show to talk about her historical novel THE LAST MOON.
Marketing consultant and freelance writer, DeAnn Lubell, recently received the highest rating issued by Midwest Book Review for her new historical novel "The Last Moon." "A riveting read from first page to last," posts the Midwest Book Review from MBR Editor-in- Chief, James A. Cox on July 9, 2010. "The Last Moon" is a novel set against the 1902 eruption of Mount Peleé on the West Indies island of Martinique that resulted in the death of some thirty thousand people and the seaport town of St. Pierre consumed by fire - an impressive historical novel, author DeAnn Lubell has paid careful attention to detail and accuracy with respect to historical facts including the Creole language spoken there, the culture, lifestyles, geography, and the geological phenomena that occur with respect to the eruption of a volcano. Against this superbly presented background is an engaging story of lust, greed, corruption, and murder, as well as friendship, love, sacrifice, faith, hope -- and survival. Deftly written from beginning to end, and available in both a hard cover and a soft cover edition, "The Last Moon" is very highly recommended for community library historical fiction collections." (Five-Star Rating) |

TERE BRITTON, our membership chair and BookPALS coordinator is hard at work setting up her fall schedule.
BookPALS is founded on a clear premise: Children must be exposed to the magic of books to develop a love of reading. Who better to make that magic come alive than actors, gifted in the art of storytelling?
Our volunteer actors read aloud to at-risk children grades 1-5 at local public schools. Help us stamp out illiteracy in the Coachella Valley!
PSWIFT and its members are proud supporters of the BookPALS Literacy Program.
Please go to our website (under Events)

Crafting Memoir from Memory
What is true and what do we create from our reminiscences?
Beginning with the concept that memory is a particular angle of perception,
which shapes our sense of identity; we examine how the memories we tell
establish our sense of self.
It is not the factual truth of our memories that is necessary for crafting them into
memoir but the emotional truth of our experience that begins to reveal the
underlying patterns of our lives.
In this workshop we look at the basic components of memoir writing and the
self-reflection required to move a memory into the realm of memoir, as well as
the themes explored in published memoirs.
