DECEMBER HOLIDAY PARTY AT SAKS

DECEMBER 16, 2009

XMAS Party 2009
From the Editor:
Dear Members and Friends,

At our November Board of Director's meeting, DIANE AHLSTROM had to regretfully tender her resignation as President for personal reasons.  She was and is a great leader, and will remain on the PSWIFT Board.  Diane, we thank you for your hard work for PSWIFT.

The PSWIFT Board has voted SHERRY HALPERIN to complete Diane's term as President.  She has graciously accepted.  A busy television/film producer and author, Sherry brings that rare ability to bring people together joyfully, and her leadership skills have already been seen by many.  Sherry has been an active member/Board Member of PSWIFT for six years, and has always contributed in every way possible.  We welcome her, and, as always, she has the full support of our rapidly growing organization.

Please note the following CHANGES TO OUR CALENDAR:

The JANUARY MIXER has been moved to Tuesday, Jan. 12, at the La Quinta Country Club (77750 Avenue 50, La Quinta,CA - entrance on 50th St. - cross-street Eisenhower) 5:00 to 7:00PM

This will be a MEMBERS ONLY mixer / Annual Membership Meeting.  Cost is only $10 to attend.   PLEASE RSVP to: office@pswift.org or call Annette at 760-238-0306.

The 2nd Annual BROKEN GLASS AWARDS has been moved to MARCH 6th...

There will not be a speaker luncheon in March.  RICHARD LEWIS (Producer/Director of the CBS hit, CSI) is being rescheduled.  Watch your "in-box" for more information.

For those of you who were unable to attend November's Guest Speaker luncheon with Frank Furino, you missed an amazing afternoon.

Once again, SHERRY HALPERIN was MC and had everyone in the room in the palm of her hand.  Informative and funny, she was perfect.  The cold poached salmon luncheon at Miramonte was delicious - a glance out the windows was reminiscent of overlooking a balcony in Italy.

And then there was Frank.

In less than an hour he summed up the essence of the writing process: The Do-s, Don't-s, Should-s and Never Do-s, the difference between Story and Plot, how to work exposition into your dialog - and when, character development, the four kinds of conflict, and the list goes on.   He commanded the room with his anecdotes and examples from films we've all seen, but never realized the specifics of what made them so special and unique.  We wish there had been more time.   He still was able to give way too many tips to include here.

Frank will be starting his 5 week workshop, The Write Stuff, again in January.  Please see more information under the Classes & Workshops section of this newsletter or on the website: www.pswift.org.

We hope to see all of you at our Holiday Shopping Spree at Saks Fifth Avenue on El Paseo, December 16th, from 5 - 7pm.   Members are FREE, and non-members only $5.00 to attend.   Sullivan's Steak House is providing the hors d'eourves, and Saks is offering a 15% DISCOUNT on purchases (and generously giving PSWIFT a portion of their profits!).   You MUST RSVP to PSWIFT to receive your "Discount ID".

Mark your calendars:  January 16 we're having a mixer - we'll be sending out a notice with the location and time.

More exciting guests and activities are planned for the balance of the season.  We look forward to seeing you.

HELP NEEDED
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
 FOR PSWIFT COMMITTEES AND EVENTS

Your Board is hard at work planning our upcoming events, but they need HELP!

If you have some time to spare, the Entertainment and Educational Committees need people with ideas, connections and  energy.

Our Major events including the Broken Glass Awards, we need help with the Events such as ticket sales, raffle gifts, PR & Media, Sponsors, Invitations - printing and mailing, Celebrity Concierges, etc.

If you would like to volunteer a few hours, please contact the office at office@pswift.org, or call Annette/Jade at 760-238-0306.

Our Education Committee, Chaired by Fern Field Brooks, needs a coordinator who is computer literate, detail oriented, and passionate about education.  Must be able to devote 1/2 day a week during business hours to the Committee - which will meet once a month - probably at Fern's office on campus at CSUSB.  Interested volunteers should email Fern at caspied@aol.com - indicating "Education Committee" in the subject line.

BOOKPALS - READERS WANTED

BookPALSIlliteracy is a major issue throughout the country... The connection between children listening to stories being read aloud and the development of their own skills has been established beyond any doubt.

Children must be exposed to the magic of books to develop a love of reading.  Who better to make that magic come alive than you?

To learn more about BOOKPALS and how you can get involved, please contact Tere Britton at 760-898-4052 or TRB1803@aol.com

If you are interested in donating books, please do so through Barnes & Noble's book drive.
SCRIPT HELP NEEDED!!

I have been working on a story for several years.  It is a true story that takes place during WWII.  I have a treatment and someone who has connections to pitch this story.  He is my historical consultant.  I have Final Draft installed on my MAC, but I have no technical skills to write this script.  I am looking for someone who would be interested in partnering with me either on a technical level and/or a developmental level to help me get this powerful story on paper.

The man I am working with will take it to the right people who are interested in producing this. But, I have to have at least a first draft.

Please let me know who might be interested in this amazing project.

Thank you so much.

TUTOR NEEDED FOR 'FINAL CUT PRO'

Looking for someone who might know the "Final Cut Pro" Software used for video/film editing.

I basically need someone who knows the software well enough to offer me a "primer" on it to round out my knowledge of the software.

Prefereably, this person would be local, in the Coachella Valley.

Thank you in advance,

PATRICIA CRAINE, MA, LMFT
Patti CrainePatricia Craine is a licensed psychotherapist and author.
Her three books are now available to be purchased by contacting Patti at:
pbcraine@aol.com.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit PSWIFT.

RAINDROPS TO RAINBOWS
Patti sees a constant flow of "stress/overload" situations in her practice. Her garden hummingbirds remind her of the "flutterbusy" people who do not take the time to see and reflect on life's beauty and blessings, causing anxiety and increased problems for everyday living.  Raindrops to Rainbows is a beautiful and colorfully illustrated children's book. Adults will learn from this meaningful story and will enjoy reading the story of "Ruby" and her friends to their little ones. Raindrops to Rainbows is a treat for all.

WENDY'S CLUB
"Wendy's" are those women who are "addicted" to men who just won't seem to grow up -  born nurturers and great gals who fall for the charming, fun loving quality of "Peter Pan." As husbands/boyfriends, they are great--at first. But as the relationship continues, broken promises combined with "Wendy's" low self esteem keeps her from leaving. Learn how to break the pattern and move forward to a new beginning.

OUR MIRACLE-OUR EARTH
Patti's love of nature and its creatures, her concerns for the environment, prompted her to write Our Miracle-Our Earth. This beautifully illustrated children's book creates increased awareness and hopefully solutions for Earth, its people, its creatures, and its future.  Learning as a child how they can really make a difference is crucial for them and our planet. For home, school, or gifts, Our Miracle-Our Earth is a true treasure.
