NOVEMBER GUEST SPEAKER LUNCHEON
NOVEMBER 14, 2009

'THE WRITE STUFF'
with
FRANK FURINO

What's YOUR story? Come be inspired to write it!

Everyone has a story to tell.  Whether you are a novice or professional writer, there will be much to be gained by attending this informative afternoon.

Frank FurinoDate:   Sat. Nov. 14, 2009

Location:
Miramonte Resort
45000 Indian Wells Lane
Indian Wells, CA

Time:      10:45 Check in
               11:30 Luncheon

Cost:       Members $35/
               Non Members $50
(Secure MEN are WELCOME!)

Frank Furino is now bringing his hugely successful workshop,
"The Write Stuff" to the desert and will share with us:

  • THE BASIC ELEMENTS OF CREATIVE WRITING
  • OUTLINE VS. TREATMENT VS. SCRIPT
  • STORY VS. PLOT
  • CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
  • CONFLICT AS BASIS OF DRAMA (PROTAGONIST VS. ANTAGONIST)
  • DIALOG - How to write realistically (to be said - not read)
  • HOW - WHERE & WHEN TO WRITE (more important than you may think)

If you have long harbored the dream of writing that story, book or screenplay, here's your chance to pick up invaluable tips and motivation from a successful Hollywood professional who made his own dream of writing come true!

FRANK FURINO, Writer/Producer of many TV drama series including  "Flamingo Road," "Dynasty," "Dallas," "Falcon Crest," & "The Colbys."   For a time he was co-head writer on "General Hospital,"  and co-created and produced "Nightingales" starring Suzanne Pleshette for NBC-TV.

Frank didn't start out as a writer.  He started his career in production, but never gave up the dream of writing.  He tells all of his students, "It's never too late to start to write!"

The 60's and 70's saw some of the most volatile and exciting times in our history. From the assassination of JFK and Robert Kennedy, to the first Lunar Landing, to the Manson Trial and Watergate...Frank was there.  As staff director at ABC News & Sports, he was privileged to work with luminaries such as Peter Jennings, Ted Koppel, Howard Cosell and Barbara Walters, to name a few.

Later, he joined Dick Clark Productions as Director of their syndicated radio division, where for 8 years, he wrote and produced a variety of  music shows.  He  then moved on to primetime/daytime TV.

Frank's passion for writing was passed along when he taught Creative Writing at UCLA Extension for three years.

Today he is President and co-founder of Furino/Greene Creative, one of the most successful Marketing/PR agencies in the Valley.

LETTER TO MEMBERS AND FRIENDS OF PSWIFT

Dear Members and Friends,

Our first Guest Speaker Luncheon of the season was a huge success!  It was such a treat to have Kaye Ballard and Gloria Greer entertaining us with memories, from TV to Broadway and back.  People who didn't know Kaye did impressions were enchanted by her Bette Davis, Judy Garland, and many others.  We laughed - sat up in amazement at her candid reflections.  Her CD, "My Life, In My Own Words, With My Own Mouth" practically sold out, and Kaye graciously stayed to the end, to visit and sign autographs.

We were thrilled to see Fern Field back from her recent surgery.  Both Past President  Denise DuBarry Hay and President Diane Ahlstrom were unable to attend, so Sherry Halperin took the reins.  If she ever decides to give up writing and producing, she may have a whole new career as a stand-up comedienne!

Don't forget to mark your calendars:  See Calendar to the left!!

Our Holiday "Shopping" Party will be on Dec. 16 at Saks on El Paseo from 5pm to 7pm.  Members are FREE, Non-Members $5.  You'll need to RSVP to have your reservation for a 15% DISCOUNT ON PURCHASES.

We are thrilled to have Frank Furino as our November luncheon speaker.  This promises to be quite entertaining and educational.  Please see the details above.

See you there!
