Happy Valentine's Day from RENEW
A Note from Liza
My New Headshot

What a beautiful day in Augusta, Georgia, to share the love of Christ with family and friends. I am blessed beyond measure with a wonderful husband, four beautiful children, faithful friends and extended family, partners in ministry, a vibrant church family and a resounding sense of the presense of the living God.  Show love to others today and allow the love of Christ to flow through you in a mighty way.  Because He first loved us--we can love.

"Do everything in love."

1 Cor. 16:14

Dear Friend,

A friend of mine sent me a little history lesson on the origins of St. Valentine's Day today, which I confess I didn't know.

St. Valentine, a Roman Christian was martyred on February 14th, in 269 A.D., beheaded for refusing to give up his Christian beliefs. While in prison, the children would toss loving notes to him through the bars of his cell, thus beginning the exchanging of messages.  In 496 A.D., St. Pope Gelasius I named Feb. 14th St. Valentine's Day in his memory.  Red is the color used to celebrate the holiday, representing the shed blood of the martyr, given for Valentine's faithful love and devotion to Jesus Christ.

Romanticism and other traditions were added in later centuries, with the heart becoming the symbol of love and affection for Valentine's Day.

It's nice to be reminded that so many of our secular traditions and holidays are deeply rooted in the Christian faith--a faith that many continue to be martyed for today.  Let's remember not only those we love and cherish today, but also those suffering saints who boldly proclaim Christ even at the expense of their very lives.

In Memory of a Dear Friend

               Peg Snyder

Peg Snyder

A friend does not even begin to describe someone like Peg Snyder.  Not only was Peg a long-time financial supporter of RENEW and Good News over the years, but she served as the prayer coordinator of RENEW from 1989-2009, sending monthly prayer letters and offering support to our leadership and support team.

In July 2010, Peg went to be with the Lord and join her dear husband, Bob, a United Methodist pastor.  Like the person she was, Peg continues to give, by leaving a generous gift from her estate to RENEW.  We thank Peg for the Christian devotion and love she gave so freely to her family, her friends, the women of the church and her beloved United Methodist Church. And for the legacy she continues to leave RENEW.

Thanks for faithful giving in 2010!

Stained Glass

We also want to thank those of you who have given RENEW gifts and prayers during 2010.  We especially thank those indivicual and groups who have partnered with us in ministry through our membership program.

This program allows different levels of giving and enables RENEW to be a voice for women within the UMC and to reach out to women across the denomination who desire the formation of Christ-centered ministry in their local churches.

This support is especially important as we begin 2011, as we leave "the nest" of Good News and become our own separate entity.  Our tax exempt status is in process and will be retroactive to Jan. 1, 2011 when it is finalized in the coming months.  We are formally under the name RENEW Network, Inc.

Stay tuned for press releases and new reports to be released later this week.

Blessings in Christ,
