ValenSPINE's Day

Happy ValenSPINE's Day!
Chiropractic and Your Heart
To us, Valenspine's Day is not just about romance, flowers and chocolate. (Although, we do love chocolate!) It's also a good time to think about the health of your heart. Chiropractic is good for the heart, by way of the nervous system and the removal of spinal stress known as subluxation.
When we talk about the heart most people think about blood, and the job the heart does pumping that blood throughout the body. But what about the connection between the brain and the heart? We don't hear much about that. Like every organ in the body, the heart is controlled by the nervous system. There is a nerve that runs from the lower part of your brain (upper part of your neck) down to your heart. You certainly don't want to have spinal stress anywhere in your neck, if anything, it just doesn't feel good.
This Valenspine's Day, make sure your spine is aligned to help your body stay healthy this winter. Pain isn't a good indicator of health. Even if your body doesn't feel sore, it's still a good time to get your spine checked. We will certainly be glad to see you, especially if you're bringing chocolate!

Power Food: Dark Chocolate Yes, you read that correctly. Dark chocolate is good for you!-If you eat the right kind and not too much. (A Kit-Kat bar or a bag of M&M's doesn't count.)
The reason candy bars are so unhealthy is not because of the chocolate, but because of all the extra sugar, high fructose corn syrup and hydrogenated oils. Dark chocolate by itself is rich in iron, magnesium and antioxidants. The quality of chocolate is determined by the percentage of cocoa solids in the finished product and should be at least 70%.
Chocolate also has a stimulating effect on the heart muscle and kidneys, and was traditionally used by medical herbalists along with the plant Digitalis for fluid retention linked to heart failure. A small amount of chocolate can enhance your mood because it contains the chemical throbromine, which is believed to trigger the release of natural "feel-good" chemicals in the brain and these endorphins also kindle the feelings of romance and love.
Hmmm...perfect for Valenspine's Day! So, in moderation, dark chocolate is very beneficial.
