Message from Dr. Munson

Dear Family and Friends:

Although we've moved our clocks ahead an hour and daylight stays with us a little longer, you still may find yourself doing the same old dark workouts inside the gym or in the privacy of your own home.  So why not spring forward - right out the door.  Taking your workout outside this spring can recharge your batteries and give you a renewed enthusiasm for exercise.   Remember to bring lots of water and wear sun block.

For the days we don't get outside we are still getting exercise and burning calories!!  Here are a list of household tasks and the calories burned, based on a 30-minute period.

Mopping: 140 calories Vacuuming: 140 calories
Ironing:    75 calories Dusting:     120 calories
Cooking:    90 calories Rearranging furniture: 113 calories
Grocery shopping: 130 calories Washing your car: 150 calories
Indoor painting: 102 calories Watering outdoor plants: 120 calories
Pulling Weeds: 177 calories Mowing lawn: 120 calories
Raking Leaves: 144 calories

Our bodies love motion!  Regular exercise keeps us going.  Move it or lose it!
If you need help designing an exercise program, please let me know.

Earth Day Celebration - April 17th
Earth Day, April 22nd, is intended to raise rising public awareness about a variety of environmental issues.  These issues vary from year to year: air pollution, water pollution, habitat destruction, sustainable energy, climate change, species losses and environmental policies.  For individuals, Earth Day is often best celebrated on a smaller scale, by acting on behalf of a single issue.  This year, what does Earth Day mean to you?

Please join Chiro-Health as we celebrate our 2nd Annual Earth Day Community CleanUp on Saturday, April 17th from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m.  Meet in our parking lot, 710 Eastern Avenue.   Individuals/families/groups will be disbursed throughout the community to collect litter, helping make Plymouth a more beautiful place to live.   Bring gloves.  Garbage bags and treats will be provided.  Thank you for volunteering and teaching our children the value and meaning of their participation.   Everyone is Welcome!

Bike & Walk to Shop Week - June 5th thru June 11th

Patient Success Story
I went to see Dr. Munson for my sore feet, I was diagnosed with plantar fascitis and heel spurs.  She is giving me therapy with laser light.  I also asked her if the laser would work for toenail fungus. She said we could try it.  She has been doing it almost three months now and the fungus is almost gone.  I saw a commercial on TV about laser treatment for nail fungus, so that is why I asked Dr. Munson about that.  I'm finally going to have normal looking toes.  That is really cool!

8 ESSENTIALS OF GOOD HEALTH:
Attitude, Exercise, Nutrition, Rest, Water, Sunshine, Fresh Air and a Sound Nervous System

Recipe
Tuscan Minestrone Soup (Serves 6)

2 T olive oil
1 med. Zucchini, cut into ½" slices, about 2 cups
1 med. Summer squash, cut into ½" slices, about 2 cups
1 large carrot, finely diced, about ¾ cup
1 small onion, finely diced, about ¾ cup
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp Italian seasoning
4 cups all-natural reduced-sodium chicken broth
One 15 oz can diced tomatoes
One 15 oz can cannelloni beans, drained and rinsed
½ cup whole wheat Barilla PLUS or elbow pasta
3 fresh thyme sprigs
Salt and freshly ground pepper
1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/3 cup loosely packed fresh basil, cut into strips

Heat the oil in a Dutch oven over medium-high heat.  Add the zucchini, summer squash, carrot, onion, garlic and Italian seasoning to the Dutch oven and cook, stirring frequently, until the vegetables start to soften, about 10 minutes.  Stir in the broth and diced tomatoes, cover the mixture, and bring it to a boil.  Add the beans, pasta, and thyme, and cook, uncovered, at a low boil until the pasta is done, about 10 minutes.  Remove the thyme sprigs, and season the mixture with salt and pepper.  Serve in individual bowls and top each serving with the Parmesan cheese and basil.
