This issue's focus:
Cha-cha-cha-changes
Dear Reader:
Changes are afoot at the Dale Law Firm, PC. You've probably already received notification of our move to 127 Aspen Dr., Pacheco, CA. We're excited for the move and most of all, how it will enhance both our client services and our community outreach efforts.
We've updated our educational DVD on Special Needs Trusts. You can find out more information in the left-hand column of this newsletter under "In Office Promotional Special." We'd be happy to send you a free copy!
Finally, we hope that our friends and colleagues in the Bay Area will be able to come to our Open House so that we can show off our new digs. Join us on one of the two dates listed to the left of this block for a tour.

Everything Old is New Again
Stephen W. Dale, JD, LL.M., The Dale Law Firm, PC
We have a lot to tell you.
Changes have been happening both to us personally and to the world at large. Some of them are very scary. For persons with disabilities and their families, almost every state is implementing severe cuts to services. Our thoughts are with them most of all during these difficult times.
Nationally and within each state the disability community is continuing to fight for each and every service. I just spoke at a conference in Utah. Services there have taken some brutal cuts and there are programs that are now gone, never to be seen again. For instance, there is a 25 year waiting list for residential programs for persons with developmental disabilities.

Governor Brown also signed into law 10 budget "trailer" bills, including three dealing with the so-called "trigger cuts" that are linked to about $2.5 billion in additional spending cuts to go into effect sometime after January 2012 if a certain level of revenues do not come into the State treasury as hoped for in the budget. Two very good sources of information are Marty Omoto's alerts that can be found at: www.cdcan.us,
or the Monday Morning Memo from the Arc of Calif. at: www.arccalifornia.org/monday_morning_memo.htm
What will happen next? We'll work hard to keep our readers up-to-date and involved.

For us as the Dale Law Firm, PC, the big news, of course, is the move. We've purchased and renovated a new office building, and if I say so myself, it's beautiful. We are now located in the city of Pacheco, which is just northwest of Concord. Our building has a colorful background, which I will be happy to share with you if you are able to make it to our open house. For now, let's just say that the neighbors seem to be excited with the renovations and upgrades.
What excites us the most is the opportunity to further our outreach to our special needs clients, their loved ones and the professionals who support them. Our new building has a customized ground floor meeting center where we will be able to host workshops, meetings and study groups. Next we plan to renovate the garden, turning it into an outdoor disability accessible area for everyone to enjoy.
I hope you have been able to take note of the dates for our open houses, listed in the left hand column. Come on down for a tour, if you can.

FINDS Data Now Available
from The ARC
In 1961, President Kennedy took action to bring people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) "out of the shadows" and improve their lives. About that same time, The Arc coalesced into a strong and sustained national movement to promote and protect the rights of people with I/DD. Fifty years later, The Arc wondered just how far we had come.
We set out to find the answer to that question and a host of other questions about the lives of people with I/DD through a massive online survey called Family and Individual Needs for Disability Supports (FINDS).
The Arc released the topline results from that groundbreaking assessment of more than 5,000 individuals, family members and caregivers today in a report called Still in the Shadows with Their Future Uncertain. The report, available now online, outlines some of the most impressive data we gathered about the unmet needs of this population - needs that are unnecessarily keeping them in the shadows of our society along with a detailed call to action for those involved in our movement, our political leaders and people of good conscience everywhere to change the status quo. As it should be, our national network of more than 700 chapters will be at the forefront leading this reinvigorated movement of those who respond to this call.
We invite you to read and share this report, find out more in the technical report and data tables online, and identify the opportunities in our call to action for your Chapter to get involved and make a difference. If you have questions or would like more information about what The Arc is doing nationally in light of this new information, please visit our website.
