Kindness and Compassion Club
Registration Open
Registration Now Open for Nickajack's Kindness and Compassion Club!
We had a fantastic kick-off to kindness at Nickajack with our Power of One Walk on Wednesday, August 22nd, Georgia's official "Random Acts of Kindness Day." The Griffin Middle School K2O Club joined some of our fifth grade KC Club members to "spread" kindness by displaying positive messages throughout the Nickajack campus. We will continue to emphasize the significance of random acts of kindness by continuing our challenge to build the longest kindness chain possible. All students are encouraged to add a link to the chain whenever they commit an act of kindness or when they observe others doing so.
For the past three years, we have offered students the opportunity to participate in the Rachel's Challenge Kindness and Compassion Club after school. Students in our KC Club represent leaders in the effort to promote kindness and compassion on the school campus. They learn about the importance of kindness and giving and about numerous ways that they can make a difference in the lives of others. KC Club students will participate in school, community, and even global service projects.
Meetings will be held on Mondays after school from 2:30 - 3:30 pm. We will have three clubs this school year: Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd, and 3rd - 5th. The Kindergarten and 1st - 2nd grade clubs will meet on the same Monday but in different locations. The 3rd - 5th grade group will meet on alternate Mondays in the Media Center. We will still have a maximum capacity due to space issues so enrollment will be first come, first serve. As indicated on the permission form, students will need a teacher's signature to participate in KC Club. If you have any questions or would like further information, please contact Katy Weihe or 770-745-5460 with any questions.
If your child is interested in participating in the KC Club this school year, Click HERE to download a permission form: K.C. Club Registration. |
Playground improvements are here!
Phase 1A
You may have noticed some much needed improvements have been made to the K-2 playground near the car rider line in the rear of the school. Your Nickajack PTA dollars have made this happen! Over the last few weeks we have...
1) Planted and mulched and weeded the rundown
landscape beds on the side of the playground. 2) Graded and resurfaced the existing blacktop/basketball court area. We've also painted basketball hoop lines, four square lines and hopscotch lines. 3) Installed a new, commercial grade basketball hoop
What remains for Phase I is for Cobb County to place a concrete trail mix around the play structure area (where there is currently dirt). Once CCSD has completed that work, our landscapers will come behind them and grade the soil and re-sod the areas at both ends of the playground. At that point, there will be no more dirt in the playground area! This work will likely take place in September. The new grass area will be marked with caution tape and will not be usable for a 2-3 week period. Phase II planning will kick off after the first of the year and will require fundraising The committee plans to fence in the area between the playground and the cafeteria, which will double the play space and give the youngest NES children a place to play.
The PTA owes gratitude to the Playground Committee chair, Chuck Young, for using his professional expertise to bring the school's vision to life. Last summer, he stood up in a meeting where PTA asked for playground committee help and he took the reigns from there. He's worked tirelessly all summer with vendors and Cobb County to make the school's vision a reality. This is truly a premier example of involved parenting. |

Car Riders - Please Read
We are trying as best as we can to get your children to you and you on your way as safely and as quickly as possible. You can help us expedite the process. Please note the following:
1) Please pull up as far as you can...car rider monitors are waving you forward in order to let others out of the line.
2) Please help your child(ren) learn their car rider number and stress to them the importance of listening for their number when they are being called.
3) Please, for you and your child's safety, do not get out of your car. Your child will need to enter from the right side of your car.
Walking in to pick up your child?
Bring in your car pool window sticker, walk to the cafeteria and sign them out. There is no longer a need to log them out on the computer. If you cannot remove your car pool sticker go to the office for a slip and please hold on to it for the remainder of the year.
Please note, per the Cobb County District, children can no longer be checked out after 1:30 pm, even for doctor appointments so please plan accordingly.
