This new program provides a $50 scholarship for all Fort Fairfield children entering kindergarten in 2011 and a $250 scholarship for all Fort Fairfield babies born on or after July 1, 2011.  The scholarships will be deposited into a NextGen account opened for the benefit of the eligible youth. Legislative Update

The November 8 ballot has four questions representing both citizen-initiated and legislature-initiated measures.

In their correct order, the questions that will appear on the November 8, 2011 state-wide Referendum Election ballot are as follows:

Question 1:  People's Veto

Do you want to reject the section of Chapter 399 of the Public Laws of 2011 that requires new voters to register to vote at least two business days prior to an election?

Question 2:  Citizen Initiative

Do you want to allow a slot machine facility at a harness racing track in Biddeford or another community within 25 miles of Scarborough Downs, subject to local approval, and at a harness racing track in Washington County, with part of the profits from these facilities going to support specific state and local programs?

Question 3:  Citizen Initiative

Do you want to allow a casino with table games and slot machines in Lewiston, with part of the profits going to support specific state and local programs?

Question 4:  Constitutional Amendment

Do you favor amending the Constitution of Maine to change the years of redistricting the Maine Legislature, congressional districts and county commissioner districts after 2013 from 2023 and every 10th year thereafter to 2021 and every 10th year thereafter?

In addition, there will be various local issues on ballots, including special elections to replace a vacancy in the Maine House and county and municipal questions. For details on these and other questions, please visit the Secretary of State's webpage:
