Does your staff need grantwriting skills? As a NELLCO member you can get them for free!

NELLCO member libraries that can host a 2-day grant writing or grant management workshop will receive two free seats for staff to attend. That's a value of almost $1000.00!

NELLCO has teamed up with Grant Writing USA to offer these workshops across the US. Host institutions only need to provide space and a local contact person. We do the rest. Interested? Let us know!

  • A Time for Thanks

November always calls us to be grateful. In the first half of the month, we're thankful to all of the veterans of military service who have served on our behalf throughout the years. We appreciate the great sacrifices that they and their families have made to insure our comfort and security. In the latter half of the month we are thankful for the bounty of our lives, in whatever form that may take. We take stock and focus on the things that make us feel fortunate.

I'm fortunate to have a healthy, wonderful and supportive family; an inspiring profession and work that fulfills me; and brilliant and generous colleagues. That's a lot to be thankful for!

And I'm thankful to everyone who helps to move NELLCO forward year after year. This group includes NELLCO staff member Theresa McCue, who is instrumental in the day-to-day work of the organization, and the 25 member NELLCO Board of Directors, who bring their experience and insight to bear at the helm. This also includes our NELLCO Interest Group Leaders (Elisabeth Umpleby (UConn), Brian Flaherty (New England Law Boston), Renee Rastorfer (Western New England), Caroline Walters (Suffolk), Sabrina Ash (Suffolk), Sue Zago (Northeastern), Chris Hepler (UMaine)), our host institution Albany Law School and the staff of the Schaffer Law Library, all of those members who volunteer their time and talents to various NELLCO projects and programs, our Industry Partners, our outside contractors and consultants, our collaboration partners, and our general cheerleaders. To everyone who helps to further our mission, we thank you!

Yours In Collaboration,

Tracy L. Thompson-Przylucki

symNELLCO Symposium 2012
Content, Collaboration, Curation and Innovation
Plan to attend!

NELLCO is very excited to host this inaugural, annual two-day event at the Albany Law School in Albany, NY on March 12-13, 2012. Registration for attendees will open soon!

We are thrilled to have the following Industry Partners registered to participate so far:

Please talk with your local vendor reps and encourage them to participate. We want them to be part of the conversation and share in the success of this first-ever event. They can visit the conference website for more information.

Find out more about Albany before you plan your stay. Did you know Albany has world famous stained-glass installations? Or that Albany is home to the Henry Hudson Planetarium? Or that the New World Bistro Bar is home to two-time Chopped Champion Chef Ric Orlando?

Now that you know, please plan to attend and help us make this a successful inaugural event!
erg  Introducing RDA Toolkit Essentials and more

LLNE Meeting - Art Law: Framing the Issues

Last month's LLNE meeting at the Clark Institute was first rate! It's always so nice to get out of your own silo and learn about new content areas, and the LLNE meeting provided that opportunity in a beautiful setting. In addition to our own Filippa Marullo Anzalone, we were treated to presentations by Anthony Amore, author of Stealing Rembrandts, and the husband and wife art law team of Ralph Lerner and Judith Bresler. It was a fascinating glimpse into the rarified world of art theft, art law and cultural property. Bravo!

site  New Website update

We apologize for the delay in launching our new website. It turns out that we have one authentication application on our current site that isn't easily replicated on our new site. If we were to launch the new site without addressing this issue, subscribers' access to Current Index to Legal Periodicals (CILP) would be interrupted. We are working with Exceed Digital Systems on an API solution and hope to launch no later than Nov. 1. Thanks for your patience as we work to solve this issue.

The new site, pictured above under construction, offers a much more user friendly and intuitive look and feel. Trials, offers and e-resource subscriptions and renewals will be handled through an e-commerce and shopping cart function to which we've all become accustomed in the online shopping environment. NELLCO members will also gain a great deal of direct interaction and opportunity for collaboration through the site's online community functionality. Facebook and twitter integration are supported, as well as other social networking features, like "online now" notifications so members can connect directly. You're going to see a lot of change, and we hope you will work with us to achieve a new site that serves all of us better and leads to greatly enhanced collaboration!

NELLCO Trials

Trials with detailed information are always posted on the NELLCO website! Just login as a member and click on Trials and Offers from the member dashboard.

It's also very helpful to us if you include a comment so we know why you chose or declined to subscribe to a trial resource. This feedback is helpful to us when we negotiate with information providers. Just enter it in the comments field when you make your decision. Thank you!

November is Noshember!mologo

Are you looking for an excuse to quit shaving? Look no further. November is no shave month, aka Noshember! Who knew there was a whole month dedicated to unchecked hair growth? This likely sprouted from the Movember movement, organized to raise awareness about men's health and more specifically, prostate cancer. There's still time to catch up if you toss your blades today! Happy grooming!
